And Republican's retreat...
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HTRHIjlnfwU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HTRHIjlnfwU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
It's funny cause before the bailout failed the McSpinners were all gloating how McCain was the one who made it all happen:
| "This bill would not have been agreed to had it not been for John McCain... This is a bipartisan accomplishment, a bipartisan success. And if people want to get something done in Washington, they just watch John McCain. He's been the guy whose name is at the top of major pieces of legislation for a long time."
-- Mitt Romney, NBC's Today show, 9/29/08
"What Senator McCain was able to do was to help bring all of the parties to the table, including the House Republicans, whose votes were needed to pass this"
-- Steve Schmidt, NBC's Meet the Press, 9/28/08
"We're optimistic that Senator McCain will bring House Republicans on board without driving other parties away, resulting in a successful deal for the American taxpayer."
-- McCain spokeswoman Kimmie Lipscomb, 9/26/08 |
If McCain was taking credit for it passing, before it passed, shouldn't he get credit for it failing too?
Also, let's laugh at palin some more:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zeMypXCUWMw&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zeMypXCUWMw&color1=0xb1b1b1&color2=0xcfcfcf&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
And from that same katie couric interview, here's a question/response that isn't getting much attention but should, considering that Palin endorsed Hamas...
| Couric asked, "What happens if the goal of democracy doesn't produce the desired outcome? In Gaza, the U.S. pushed hard for elections and Hamas won."
Palin's answer, in full, was this: "Yeah, well especially in that region, though, we have to protect those who do seek democracy and support those who seek protections for the people who live there. What we're seeing in the last couple of days here in New York is a President of Iran, Ahmadinejad, who would come on our soil and express such disdain for one of our closest allies and friends, Israel ... and we're hearing the evil that he speaks and if hearing him doesn't allow Americans to commit more solidly to protecting the friends and allies that we need, especially there in the Mideast, then nothing will." |

Honestly on this one I don't know enough to make a good argument. All I know is that my gut says "fuck this shit about capitalism on the way up and socialism on the way down" and I think the idiots who fucked up shouldn't get saved, these rich assholes can go fuck themselves. Then I also hear about how these guys crashing down will hit me too as lot's of middle class people lose jobs and something goes wrong with credit. I'm still not sure how it will affect the middle class though and I have a hard time believing that. I mean, they said wall street prosperity would trickle down to help us, now they say wall street pain will trickle down and hurt us... well the prosperity never got here so why would the pain?
And I'm not so much on a side of whether it should pass or fail, I just found it funny that McCain suspended his campaign to get this bill passed (aka he faked a suspension for a photo opp and then took credit for it before it passed) and now he looks like an idiot... like usual. |

I think the argument used for this bailout that is suppose to appeal to middle class people is there needs to be credit in our financial system to provide loans to small businesses and middle class/poor people to buy houses (lol!). This is all working under the assumption there isn't enough credit.

Fuck, I think the problem is way too many poor/middle class depend on credit and get into debt that they shouldn't be in in the first place. So it's a good thing if the credit goes away rite? =) |

Credit isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's good if you provide it to productive people who can pay it back. If there isn't enough credit in the system then people can't borrow money to expand their businesses (buy capital, take on labor). The thing about this bail out is that it's not even clear if we even need this injection of credit, nor if it will help, nor if it's better than just letting the liquidation to occur/bankruptcy.
but ya, credit is also used for not so productive activities - buying cars, t.v.s, paying for vacations, and houses. |

Interesting. Thanks for posting frywad, I'm learning a bit more about this bailout from you than I have from reading the news. No one is talking about WHY or WHAT or specifics, just whether it is failing or succeeding =
