I've been reserved about saying this till after the 2nd debate, but now that it's over and McCain far from won (I'd say he was better than debate #1 but barely above break even), I think Obama has a very solid shot of winning this thing and that he could do it with a landslide.
Some national tracking polls have McCain coming back a bit, but state polls seem to be holding strong for Obama and Gallup is treating him real nice today as he achieves a new record high:
And here's what RCP has for the rest of today's polls as I make this post.
And Pollster.com has a pretty solid map for Obama right now that I pretty much agree with, though I'd give him stronger margins than they do.

yeah first year in so long has VA as a toss up. I'm from northern VA, which McCain claimed communist, VA is def. gonna vote for Obama imo |

yeah main changes I'd make on that map are gput VA and NV as lean Obama, leave OH and FL as tossup since I'd rather have like a solid 8 point lead there before calling it a lean cause those states so easily change their minds, and I'd put indiana lean mccain right now with NC and MO being tossup as well. |

I think this election has always been Obama's/Democrats election to lose. The Dems won in '06. They've had greater voter turn out during the primaries and broken fund raising records left and right. The gambling sites have always trended towards Obama. And the "party of Bush" is more loathed than it probably has ever been before. It would take voter fraud of epic proportions or something like Obama being outed as a Muslim plant for him to lose this one. The traditional polls are the only metric that has ever shown it as even being close. |
