Well this rally was 2 months ago, sadly i couldnt race since my car wasnt out of the repair shop (again :<), problems with the fucking gearbox and suspension so i went there to watch it, and get WASTED!!, nothing like driving twisty mountains roads drunk
Anyway... well it turns out there this mythical turn, (i dunnot, seems like a std turn to me) that always takes casualties, well in 2005 3 cars crashed in the same corner, and considering its over 100km (60miles) of race, its really weird that they went in the same corner, but here are the pics of 2005:
So, this 2008 the same event, which is my city event, took place and something very similar but more hilarious happened:
Police cars transit the stage while closing it, like 30 mins before the 1st race car passes, obv some cops get hot-headed and think they are rally drivers, and this cop wasnt the exeption, well he understeered into the grass:
Close call, but no damage done, it just got stuck in the grass, so this is Stage 1 a few Kms from the start line, and a Red 206 Peugeot shows the cop how a true racer crashes:
But its not all done, the mythical turn wanted more blood so another brave driver sacrificed himself to please it, not before he took a little revenge of many years of police abuse, such a hero!

By looking at the movie I think that car didnt even try to make the turn. Looking at his front wheel. I dont see any indication of the guy is turning. Is that right?
Whats so special about that turn? I cant understand but it looks like a normal turn to me.

Well its a tight corner almost hairpin but i dont remember it, so it didnt scare me so i dunno why it eats so many cars.
He was going too fast and took a wrong line, he locked the brakes and understeered, turning the wheel would have done nothing but worsen the situation, he should have pulled the e-brake but with the line he took he was going out anyway.

lol, I could never understand what people who went to watch rally had from it, just standing there and see a car pass every 5 minutes. But watching that turn must have been funny.. I hope all drivers are Ok though.

Are you serious? watching rally is amazing mainly because its free, so you go with your friends, put up a tent, drink a shit load of beers, watch the cars that pass every minute in a much much more spectacular way than dull circuit racing, its just amazing the way rallies are driven makes it much more fun than circuit since we drive in a rough way, cutting corners, going sideways squeeling tires, while in the track its all neat and clean... its like watching a 40/30 maniac playing poker against a 12/9 nit.

Locking the brakes in rally is not that rare to see since its not a track where u plan and know in what inch to brake, here if you misscalculate a turn, or a wrong pace note makes u go too fast to a corner its easy to lock the brakes.
Yeah i was taught that rally drivers block the wheels sometimes. Otherwise they would have ABS like any other car.. =
I've seen rally live twice and it was pretty fun. Baal you should go to Finland for a rally, fastest tracks are located there i heard. Jyväskylä..
Finlands national sport is rallying, and actually Finland is probably the #1 country in the world in racing in general, id love to go and take courses.

Going to watch Rally NY next week. Baal, PM me what cars you Rally! I'm thinking of going older Impreza (GC8) and making it a dedicated rallier.
You should start rallying in a slower single traction car imo, your going to crash in a subaru.
ill say it again, i really STRONGLY suggest you to not go that route, buy an used already prepared car and race it.
You will find dirty cheap cars ready to race (like 5k) that are really fast, drive ur fist rally carefully, finish it, race your second like you hated the car, destroy it learn all you can, and when u total the car (u will), get the subaru.
