I've been playing seriously for about 4 months now, although I haven't really played that much this last month. I started with $50 at NL2, now after like 300 hours and 100k hands, I have about $500. I can easily beat NL10, but I still can't crack NL25. I've taken like 10 shots at it, but every time I just quickly lose money and have to rebuild at NL10.

The thing is, I do enjoy poker but... not that much. There's lots of other games that I enjoy more, the only thing that really makes poker exciting for me is the potential to make money. And, I'm starting to doubt that that's ever going to happen for me. I came from the same background as a lot of you- a college student who's played a lot of starcraft and is good at math and most strategy games, but is kinda lazy and doesn't like working too hard. So, I guess I'm just frustrated that I'm not as good at this game as I hoped I'd be, and i've spent a lot on it for nothing.

going 50 to 500 in 4 month isnt that bad imo
it always longer when you play lower
And you should not ask yourself if you should keep playing because you are not making monney as much as you want
If you like playing poker, then keep playing
If you dont, then stop

Do you have holdem manager or pt3? Do you have a subscription on any teaching websites? What are you doing to improve other than just playing a lot?

I think this pretty much sums it up...

don't play poker if you don't enjoy it...
If you're thinking money wise - fucking get a job you enjoy...

Well i dont enjoy poker either ...
Its boring stupid game with lots of luck involved and bad graphics ....

However i dont even think of working in at a 10$ / h job when i can make 40-60$/h from poker

only reason i play that stupid game

I've been struggling at nl25 too, I have a BR that for the past week has fluctuated between $1100-1230. Looking over my hands, I spew a lot, and also run bad too obv. So you're not the only one.

Like everyone else has said, if you don't enjoy poker, then just don't play. GL

I am pretty sure like 50% + of the palyers here acutally enjoy only the money but the game itself if pretty bad/boring

I've only played 2 months so the game is still new, exciting and challenging for me, and the process of trying to improve and using my brain is pretty rewarding.

edit: luddite how many tables are you playing, and what's your ratio of learning the game (videos, articles, reading/posting HH) versus playing?

I used to be like 95% playing 5% pretending like I"m reading until 2009, till I really madea commitment to improve. It's made a huge difference so far (only like 5 days though) and most importantly it's been fun trying to improve and really really think though my actions.

If you enjoy RPGs (like me), just look at poker like leveling your character, finding good items (spewfish), and getting to the point you know you can rape the boss in like 2 hits (moving up in stakes). Seriously, playing poker now reminds me so much of fraction grinding and general leveling of characters, no wonder we refer to poker as a 'game'.

Oh ofcourse lag/luck/BBV kicks in and rapes you from time to time.

The number of tables I play varies a lot, but most often I play 8 tables of FR. Maybe that's too many, I dunno, but I get bored if I play less than that. Usually when I tried playing 25 I moved down to just 4 tables though.

I do have pt3, and I try to keep track of my stats in there, and look back at hands that I thought were tough or where a lot of money was involved. Mostly I just think a lot about the tough hands in my head when i'm going to bed or in the shower or we. Sometimes I've posted hands here, also, although tbh I've never felt like that was very helpful. Oh, and I did a trial membership at DC and downloaded a bunch of their movies (haha yeah I'm a cheapskate). That helped a little, since it made me realize that I was playing too tight, but whatever.

Maybe I'll switch to playing tourneys, since those seem more fun.

haha and @ YC_Fan88- I hate RPGS now. oh well.
