I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to play more LAG as I move up so I decided to practice it today. Played 25/22 and it was quite interesting and very fun. I stuck to 6-8 tables and wasn't at all bored, so that's a major plus. I ran kinda bad and only won 1 BI over 2k hands though. I think I did spew a bit in medium pots. Went for value a bit too thin a few times and made a few stupid river calls with things like AA on a board that had turned to shit.

I can see why LAG would be profitable. Was able to build up stacks without ever hitting any real hands. Sadly what kept happening is that I'd add another 50BB or so onto my stack being aggressive and then when it was clear people weren't giving much credit anymore, I'd hit the nutz and get sucked out on. Flopped a straight vs a reg who was obv sick of me and also wasn't giving me credit anymore and was able to get it in on the flop only to get sucked out on the river. It sucks when you do such a good job of image building and stack building and then lose it all to a suckout. hehe. Oh well.

But I definitely could be up 2-3 buyins instead of 1 buyin if I'd avoided some of those medium pot spews.

Wednesday and Thursday sucked balls. All losing sessions. Ended up playing some NL50 cause I've learned that one thing I always wish I'd done during my downswings is move down sooner. Hoping to get some recovery today but NL100 was really nitty. I think I chose bad times to play cause usually Friday's are so good.

Still doing ok though. Sitting @ 4.4k when I was up @ 4.7k before Wednesday, so I'm doing a good job of minimizing the losses during the downswing. Hopefully later tonight I can run good vs a few fish and have a heater session =)

Btw, this guy stole all my damn outs!

I reckon you end up getting it in lighter with this style, causing bigger swongs. I definitely think its much more difficult to play (I couldn't handle it yet, for instance)... good luck hf with it. I can't wait to improve enough to be able to open up my game again

wow that's nitty snider :o!

this imo

lag is more profitable but is insanely hard to learn, plus w/ how stupid ppl are nowadays they don't pay attention to stats and just always think ppl are making moves at them. I 3bet a nitastic 3% recently and yet still I constantly get 4 bet...GL w/ the LAG though, i'm switching to it once i get my roll to 14k

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NITTY, everyone is just so shitty postflop I've lost all incentive to 3bet when i can just rape them postflop

Doesn't it stand to reason that if you can rape them postflop you'd want to play as many hands as you reasonably can post flop?

i do play a semi decent amount of hands VPIP is anywhere from 18(if table is full of unbluffable calling stations)-24(table full of reg nits who can be run over postflop) depending on the table...i'm not quite able to show a profit on hands like u can w/ ur like 32/28 stats, but i'm gonna work on loosening up after I get a larger roll that can sustain the swings of LAG

Eh, it can be pretty difficult. I have issues with being too aggro in some spots and just general spewing. Though my preflop stats don't often vary too much. It depends how aggro the game is preflop. I change my post flop strategy depending on the players. For instance, your example of changing vs calling stations and nits. I don't let that effect my preflop game significantly. I do, however, vastly change my cbetting tendencies as a start. Which of course goes on to effect my 2 barrelling, 3 barrelling and value lines.

It's all in the post flop. Change your preflop only when they're not allowing you to see flops. Otherwise you lose good opportunities to make money.

And if they're unbluffable super loose stations, playing lots of hands gives you more opportunities to make top pair and bet, bet, bet

Takes a lot of discipline to not do spazzy shit though. My mental game is my weakest point.

Oh, and k2o4, my offer to sweat you still stands. I play 30/24/3(if you didn't already know that) and am pretty good at explaining myself on the fly. I'm sure I can help

I find myself getting fucked by doing just that w/ like TPTK or bottom two where i go bet bet bet and they just call call call and show a better two pair...so now I wait for a good starting hand before i get into a hand where I know if I hit TPTK+ I am getting my stack in for value.

Can't tell u how many times I have like AT on a T5384 board and get shown T3

There is a world of difference between "do not bluff because they don't fold" and "selectively value bet because they won't raise you with 2 pair and give you info".

And if you can't 3 barrel TPTK vs anybody you deem a calling station, perhaps you have the wrong read? Or are being results oriented

FrEaK[S.sIR]   Canada. Jan 09 2009 22:39. Posts 1848

I mean, if you play a lot, you'll triple barrel a lot for value and get shown something better. You can't let it effect your overall strategy though. It's all about EV.

palak   United States. Jan 09 2009 22:41. Posts 4601

It's more of like if i triple barrel for value and get shown some crap ass hand that beats me i know i'll go and tilt and spew more money so I try to just avoid situtations that are going to be tilt inducing

That seems like a really, really bad way to go about it. Should just work on your mental game. Was always my biggest leak.

25/22 over 2k hands doenst say toooooooooo much but it's good to know you are opening up your game.

I've played 23/20 over 40k hands on 1/2. Sure it's more profitable to play a bit looser since they will pay off the big hands but you have to remember that you are getting shoved/called light. Which isn't a problem at all, but it increases variance a lot. Which is probably the reason why I like a nitty br management )))))))))))))!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also once AK becomes to nuts vs some people you are basicly often flipping or just a 65/35 favorite against them. Having a few bad days can be pretty bad.

But a few examples of how this can be very profitable:
