After my first post on liquidpoker (http://www.liquidpoker.net/poker-forum/677528/New_and_on_.01_.02.html) asking some questions about a few hands I played I was offered advice as to how to play them better which allowed me to reevaluate my decision making process and learn a little bit more from my mistakes. I also took the advice to buy in 100bb and almost instantly started benefiting when I started hitting good hands. I've decided to create a blog so I can ask questions, record results, and review my play from each day. I do not have poker tracker yet so I am basically going to just be 2-3 tabling .01/.02 so I can take notes on players at the tables and use the observations to understand what their hand range might be. Once I start to get a general feel quicker for what to do I will add more tables but until then I really want to get a better understanding of the plays my opponents are making and the plays I should be making in specific situations. I am going to be posting some hands that I have questions about in each blog post asking for advice and will be deliberately practicing using odds and outs until they become second nature. Currently, some of the villain's actions are not very hard to understand. They are usually either playing with nothing and calling/betting/raising incorrectly, or raising strong hands preflop and then not being able to let them go when nothing hits. Here are a few hands I played last night, please tell me what you think I could be doing differently:

Villain was making bad raises and bad calls on previous hands so I wasn't exactly sure what he could have. Was checking/calling bad? Should I have lead out with a bet?

I was trying to protect from flush draw against more than one opponent so in case one called the other would be getting incorrect odds to call as well. Is that correct to do? Or should I have bet .04 making it incorrect for the first one to call but if he does call it's making it correct for the second one to call. Do I try to make the odds incorrect for all players or only the player to act after me and how often should I be worried that my opponents hit a flush on the turn or river if I am HU?

Should I not have reraised preflop? I bet .94 to protect from flush draw but after he called my bet I figured I was beat so I just checked folded. Was this correct to do? He wasn't showing strength earlier in the hand and I wasn't sure what he had so should I have played it differently?

Thanks guys, any advice is welcomed!

Hand 1: Preflop is fine
Flop: I would bet a little more because he is never folding a worse ace(We get more value) and he is never folding a draw either (we get more value. I would also 3bet his flop raise especially if we know that he is making bad raises because he will put a lot more money in with a weaker ace/draw

Turn: IF we are scared of him on flop I dont mind calling. But this is the perfect turn to check raise! I raise turn 100% because a set of 3 becomes very unlikely and the only hands we are afraid of are 77 and A7.

Riv: I like the bet as played (maybe make it a little bigger).

PS. We have a veery strong hand and we should be looking to put all the money in because our opponent is likely to stack off with a much weaker holding at any point in the hand.

Hand 2:

Don't worry about making the odds bad for everyone. No matter what you bet, if a first guy comes along, anyone else is going to have odds to chase a flush. With 3 other players in the flop, I'd be very worried about a flush if another diamond turns. What hands do you think are going to float you on this flop? Bigger pocket pairs would probably have raised preflop, but there may be some smaller ones that were set mining. A 2 would probably float, and maybe 43 or 54. There are many, many more hand combinations of flush draws and none of them are folding. If a diamond comes, I'd still be betting OOP (calling a small raise with boat odds, folding otherwise) or calling IP.

Hand 3:

I hate your preflop raise. Either call for set mining value or raise to .20 to push people out of the hand with the intention of going to showdown with 1-2 other players. All you accomplished was making your set mining more expensive. On this flop with 6 other players, you're boned. Someone's got a jack or even 2 pair, and they're not folding at microstakes. Your best bet is just to call behind and hope to hit your 1 non-diamond T out. As played, you can try to rep QQ+ on the turn, but good luck with that.

Some general advice:

1) use the [ spoiler ] tag and put your hands in the middle so we don't have to scroll through your entire blog.

2) Right now you shouldn't focus on making plays, understanding plays, assigning hand ranges and so on. If you're just starting and playing NL2 then your priorities should be memorizing what cards to play preflop in all situations, becoming totally comfortable with position, having pot odds/outs down so that it's second nature, and reading flops. Once you get all of that shit down then you can start opening your mind to other things, but these things are the foundation. If you don't understand this stuff you can't do the other stuff very well.

3) Also since it's NL2 the majority of the time there will be no sense to be made out of peoples actions, so it's a waste of time to try and figure them out. You have to resort to playing better hands preflop and value betting strong, and learning when to slow down cause you're beat. Learn solid ABC poker first and don't level yourself by trying to figure out what people are doing, cause often on NL2 they don't even know.

hand 1 is horrible - like I said ABC poker which is Raise 4x preflop with strong hands, Cbet near pot every street unless you have reason to believe you're beat.

hand 2 don't open limp - abc poker, raise or fold pre UNLESS there's 3+ people in ahead of you and then consider limping along with drawing hands. flop bet near pot because YOU ALWAYS BET NEAR POT.

hand 3 is horrible. don't re-raise preflop with TT in full ring. Just call and draw to a set or overpair.

Go to the articles section of this site and read the beginners guide and follow it to the last letter. don't post anymore hands like this cause if you're following the guide you will never have hands that look like this.
