I know they used to be better for graphic design and music editing/composing etc but this is going back pre 1999.

It's not about being better it's about personal preference. These Mac vs PC discussions always turn into pieces of shit because of retarded fanboyism. They're both computers and they're both tools which you use to do things. They both have their flaws and neither one is perfect. I have both and I use both and I like both. I don't think one is better than the other they are just different.

I've always been told the video editing software is better on macs and literally every one i know who does video editing does it on macs cuz they say the programs run better. Music is iTunes works better on macs cuz it's built for mac OS and mac likes to fuck this that they apply to windows. Windows r better at dealing with most complex software cuz more ppl are used to programming for the OS

I think the biggest difference these days is that apple makes macs using very high standards for all their components, so their computers tend to hold up very well with age. Where as with a PC the components just wear out faster. But yeah, the software seems pretty much the same these days.

There are "pluses" for macs:

1) They have on-call tech support and you just have to deal with one company if you have a problem
2) Image. People pay for their mac so they can be seen writing poetry in Starbucks. This is BY FAR the main reason.

That's it. If you care at all about performance/$ than PCs absolutely destroy Macs, but if you want to be a hipster who "creatively" checks his e-mail, get a mac.

Oh yeah and there are people who claim they buy it for Mac OS, which is nonsensical because Linux >= any Mac OS.

Definitely do not get a Mac if you plan on play Poker. Most poker applications do not exist on Macs.

Real bottomline is people who buy Macs are either ignorant about buying computers in general OR buy for the image the mac gives them. But like women who get breast implants, they will NEVER admit it that's it's just for looks and instead try to explain why they massively overpaid with some far-fetches practical argument.

Anyone who does any sort of music recording who has used GarageBand can tell you what a great tool it can be. It's very simple but has a lot of features that you can use and turn on and off with ease.

I own both Vista and OS X, and use both. Meh. No preference.

two words - garage band

The main reason why I bought a mac laptop is because the track pad is superior to windows laptop (which I've owned twice) with the 2-finger scrolling and clicking. The whole expose and spaces system on OS X are very useful to laptops when you dont carry a mouse with you. Garage band and general stability is another advantage.

For a desktop, I will always stick with PC, because I think having mouse will pretty much nullify Macbook's whole track pad advantage. Games compatibility, cheaper prices, easy upgrades, more utilities, etc. makes a PC desktop much superior in usefulness than a Mac desktop imo.

Bonus to Macs is you don't really have to worry about virus's. But if you have a decent virus + malware scanner for your PC you'll be fine anyways.

There are a lot of people writing comments in this thread who are just saying things because they think they know. I am not going to bother to get into argument over this and have to explain to everybody. All I will say is, everyone has their own personal preference. PCs are good for some things, and Macs are good at other things.

Also there is Mac vs PC, and OS X vs Windows. Don't get the two mixed up.

why though? What makes a mac better at photo editing and music? I personally HATE itunes. Maybe if you're using a mac it's a great program, but while using a PC itunes + an ipod give me nothing but headaches. On a slight tangent, I fucking hate ipods. I've had a million problems with mine and the most annoying thing is that the battery is now dead and won't hold a charge and I can't get a new battery and put it in, I have to buy a new ipod. GAY.

Yeah, this has always been my overall view. Seems like a personal preference thing. I personally hate the way they choose to do things and love PC's cause I know how to use em and they're logical to me. I have never heard any objective arguments for why macs are better than PC's, only stuff that seems to fall under personal preference. Also, most people who bitch about little annoying things with macs or pc's (like right clicking with macs, or redundant things lik user controls on vista) could just switch a few options and then things would work just fine. So on both sides a lot of the basic complaints could be easily fixed.
