question to my non-USA friends.
if you call a corporation's customer service number which is based out of your home country, how long does it take you to begin speaking with a human who is actually from the country in which said corporation is based?

Proper answer is probably "It Depends" but I'm aware that there are some legal rules for how long the wait time is allowed to be. Once your in a Que - aka done the automated part and are actually waiting to speak to a person -- I think the wait time in Canada is supposed to be kept to two minutes or less. Not sure of the exact number/rules. |

I think he means if he called a US company, got through to call centre in India - how long would it take to get in touch with someone from the company in the US?
Im guessing you could call the office directly. If theres no office number and it all goes through a centralised out-sourced call centre then it may well be quicker to write a letter |

I think he's referring to the fact that 99.9% of big companies in the U.S. use off-shore vendors (India India India) to field their customer service calls. |

Or u may well be getting through to a US based call centre
I work in a call centre here in NZ and for some reason they always hire Indians with really thick accents. It makes no sense.
some of the managers are indian though so they hire the other indians because they all love eachother and think theyre amazing. They arent |

In France there is a law for that. You can't let a customer wait more
than 7 minutes on average *and* charge his the phone call. This law is aimed at
the phone companies.

Well for one I read his post incorrectly, and for two I was speaking about the rules for in Canada. There are call centers here that do U.S. contracts and there is some sort of law for how long the wait que is allowed to be. I don't really know the details of it but yeah at least here in Canada its supposed to be 2 minutes - of course that doesn't mean it always works that way . |
