Ok, so I am doing really well this month so far pokerwise. I am playing a lot, trying to play 40k hands this month and I'm just slightly behind pace on that, nothing a good solid weekend won't fix though. Apart from that I been talking a whole shitload of poker with Royalsu and KillThemDonks from LP.net and it's progressing my game a lot.
Now thx to their help I found out my fundamentals are reasonably solid but I got one big problem... I am way too nitty and miss a crapload of value in certain spots which obviously is a very bad thing. So the only thing I was really wondering, has anyone experienced problems and if so, how did you help it ?? Did you really put small notes on your screen ?? Maybe played some drunken poker one time and that made you realise that people call/bet and raise a lot lighter because you were doing it while being intoxicated ??
Anyways, all the pointers are appreciated and I guess I'll post some monthly wrap-up after this month, never done something like that before.

hi bob
something you could try is move a stake or two down, and experiment more. Look people up light and so on and so forth. You'll often be surprised at what you may see at showdown. It'll give you a better feel of how people play and which spots they tend to bluff.
However this may not be good advice because if you try this at 5nl it might not be pertinent to 25nl. I used to be extremely nitty as well but I've improved on that a lot. You just have to think of everything that's happened through the hand and what hands he would or would not take his line with. Sometimes he'll fire on the river and the inner nit will make you want to fold your medium strength hand, but depending on the player and their tendencies (and their thought process which makes no sense) it can be a busted draw or just straight up garbage a fair amount of the time.
It's been said time and time again but you really need to think when you play any hand and just try break everything down. I'm still working on these concepts myself.
As for missing value in some spots, which line you take depends heavily on the type of villain we're playing against. If he's a station who plays any piece of board you want to get 3 streets of value with your TPGK+ nearly all of the time (depending on the board of course) if he's just calling you down with no resistance. If he's a thinking, good player (not sure how many of these are at 25nl lol) you won't necessarily be able to be able to get three streets from these players with this kind of hand. If you're getting action from a nit and you have a marginal hand, just have the discipline to pitch it. However you do see nits splash around a little sometimes, but until you see this for yourself (making assumptions can cost you a lot, especially following your HUD lol) give him the benefit of the doubt. So yeah as far as missing value goes, try and classify your villain as a certain player type and then set up your value lines accordingly and destroy them
Get the hands in and do not autopilot! |
