How Necessary is a Hud?

So, I've finally gotten sick of the Cake software. The only good thing about playing there is the rakeback. The software is so laggy and unstable.

Anyways, I'm probably going to switch to FTP instead of stars because of rakeback. How necessary is a hud there? I tried it once and it was so confusing on only 6 tables to configure, I usually play 9 tables of 6 max. Right now I play .25/.5 and .5/1.

Thanks

Thanks for the compliment E but I would rather come back as one of Michael Vicks dogs

The most important thing a HUD will do for you is tell you someone's VPIP/PFR relatively quickly. This pretty much makes it so you don't have to keep track of who the fish are at a table. The aggression stats can also make tough decisions a bit easier. With 9+ tables, it's extremely +EV.

If you play 6 or less, it's not really necessary imo.

I find that stats like fold to cbet and cbet% are very important as well. 3bet% is also very important. Any stat that tells you a lot about preflop and flop statistics is good to have in your HUD. Turn and river stats are way less important because the play varies so much. You need player reads on those bigger streets to make your decisions.

and it's important to use pokerstove along with the stats so you can determine what the percentages actually mean and how you can narrow accurately narrow down people's ranges

Dont use a HUD... focus on your reads and take notes.

Anyone who needs to use a HUD to win or get an edge, is not a poker player. Dont care how good they are.

I find all a HUD really does is prove myself right. I.E. I raise QQ UTG and a 7/5 player with 0% 3bet at 250 hands raises me, I'm pretty much fucked. Of course I get it in on a non A/K flop and what does he show, AA naturally. But I already knew this. The HUD just reminded me. There are times where I have shut off my hud b/c it was making me second guess myself. I dont really need to see that at table #5 some guy is playing 65/48/13 to know he's a maniac. I'm playing JJ OTB vs anyone.

bye now

Well i think it helps a lot

especially -> Vpip/PFR/ Cbet %/ AF and fold to c-bet%

these stats help me a lot.

FE if someone is 19/16 and does 85% c bet flops while being pretty ABC for the most part
i can almost always profitable raise flops like 48J

casue he will c bet all kind of ranges that dont hit the board but can easily hit my calling range
And since he is ABC tight overall he wont go crazy unless he has AJ or a Set.

Other ting is that it makes no sense to c bet your missed AQ into drawy flop s vs a 43/12 guy who has only 21% fold to c bet ....
It makes a lot of sense to c-bet it vs someone who is 16/14 75% fold to c bet

another thing is that if u have TT on Button and 12/8/1 guy raises from MP
u 3 bet from button and he calls

flop is like 255 he checks-> u bet 3/4 pot and he raises u on flop -> u can savely throw away Your TT cause he has QQ,KK,JJ,AA 95% here.
however if a 23/19/3 guy c/r u on this flop u can call and reevaluate on turn.

things like that are very usefull for playing 6+ tables

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)Last edit: 20/04/2009 14:00

a hud can help alot depending on the amount of tables you play but too much reliance on it can lead to levels
learning to play without one is key

Like everyone said HUD can be very helpful if you're playing many tables.
