been feeling the grind since about a month ago when i decided i want to start taking poker seriously for summer as employment. not just for the money, but for the challenge. I'm not going to grab a shitty PT job for 3 months and quit it, and im not going to get any digital design work thsi summer either since every major design shop has had 3k+ resumes sent in.

To recap, i deposited 500,and i grinded it up to 2k by mid april. I went on vacation, and came back - and ever since then the last 3 weeks have been mental torture. Maybe it's the fact that i'm new to the whole serious grinding thing, but i've been in a proverbial "rut". Ive been bouncing between 1500$ - 2000$ for about 3 weeks, and my profits per day usually go like this

3 days in a row +50$ - +150~$ or so.
1 day after -250$

basically shit like that , it's super frustrating to have a string of "consistent" days, and then have it all blown away a day later. Re-checking HEM, i've noticed that alot of it was just running under expectation in ALL in pots, but i realized that was just 60-70% of my profits evaporating, the other 30% came in non all in pots where i can genuinely feel i am not playing optimally.

I've also noticed that when i lose, i ALWAYS lose 4+ BI's on those days. I have had maybe one losing day out of the 3 weeks where ive lost less than a buyin. i always lose at least 4 BI's - it's super creepy. I've noticed all those losing days also come when i haven't slept well that night or feel subconciously fatigued, but due to my "grinder" mentality i decide to play through it not making optimal decisions.

Basically i'm looking for any advice from FR grinders NL50 and up. Is stuff like this typical for you? This month i've played about 25k hand so far and I'm running about 8-9 BI's below expectation, which isn't getting me down mind you. I'm just wondering if maybe i'm approaching grinding hands the wrong way. what mindset do you guys use on nasty long breakeven stretches? how do you get over them? thanks tonnes anyone

take a break on the 4th day.

there's nothing you can do if you're running bad though.

I have the same problem. I'll win literally 9 days in a row then lose one big one. Just recently though it's like back and fourth. I'll win 100 one day lose 80 the next win 70 one day lose 70 the next win 50 lose 30. I think the key is to just put in the hours and hang in there. I make a list of lessons i make to myself. So far i've learned this. It's really simple, but works really well if you tell yourself this in tough situations.

1. Dont overplay your hands
2. Only make good logical calls.
3. Don't try to bluff it doesn't work. Do the standard c bet of course but try to avoid losing a buy in by bluffing your chips away. People don't like to fold.
4. Avoid making tough bad calls. If you're not at least 75% sure u have the best hand then don't call.
5. Try to avoid 3 betting with really medicore hands like k2 suited for example. Also avoid calling 3 bets with those kind of hands. Unless you're like crazy priced in.

You live then you die and are reborn
