been seeing alot of shortstackers at night. kinda gay. i'm just gonna write about my experiences with them so far, any tips/advice is always welcome.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Shortstackers: A summary
There exists 2 types: fish and shark. Fish tend to limp/call at will so always bet for value against them. They shove sometimes with no reasoning, and will lead for a retarded amount. I've had good success just raising their raise and they seem to fold fine. The shark type usually conceals himself with a shortstack. And people usually will stack off with them light. Unfortunately they tend to stack off with JJ + and AK exclusively. I think people in general like to stack off way to light with these players, mainly because it's kinda fun to stack off for 5 bucks.
Due to short stack, there are few decisions for them to make. You are essentially always risking their shortstack with a cbet. There is no way to outplay them. There is really no room for higher thinking. I like to narrow my range, and bet a little extra with good hands and force my good cards to balance his gay short stack play.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, something i've been doing is more or less immediately getting up if a gold/platinum star sits next to me. I feel like in nl25 there isn't much poker to be played, except properly value betting, and properly concealing the strength of your hand is all you have to do. I don't even bluff much at this level either. I figure the gold stars + will rarely spew, and there really isn't a point in playing them. However is there anything to be learned by sitting with them?

i dont think concealing the strength of your hand is important at all. people still wont fold if your hand is obviously strong. whats important though, other than value betting (which is the most important of course), is not getting married to your big hands and being able to get away from them when theyre beat.
vs good shortstackers though, 3bet them small whenever they try to steal. shortstacks rely on stealing a ton. |

the other nit regs who don't bluff with a high enough freq can be a nice steam of BB's directly into your account if you know how to play them. best way to learn to do this is learning about squeezing and 3betting in with different ranges. vs most you can 3bet a ton of junk and get away with it.
also, steal their blinds with any 2 cards.
this is a start but there is alot more to learn... trying out alot of different ideas vs nits at HU is the best educator! |
