Rebuy strategy

Curious, what should I do differently in a rebuy tournament? It's only 1 Rebuy. Should I play pretty loose before the rebuy period is up and hope to spike and win some sorta huge pot? Then if I get stacked rebuy and play normal?

I'm playing a live tournament at a friend of a friends house tonight for the first time and I've never played a tournament with rebuys before, so no clue how this affects the strategy. halp

I would say make a decision based upon your risk/reward. Once you get there, you can see how many people are there, how much the buyin/rebuy is, how much you'd get if you were the first guy to go out, etc. If you lagtard you're way out of the $50 buy in, rebuy for another fifty, and then get 3rd for $100-$120, seems to risky for not enough moolah

sigh...its like they are throwing money out of a helicopter and i dont have any hands...so i just break even.

I think you should play normal since everyone else will probably play a lil looser. And if you see an opportunity to take a flip or something for a good stack take it :D

exactly that - normally in 1 rebuy tournaments its 1 rebuy OR addon anyway so might as well play normally take it if you need it and add on if not.

play normal, except if there is someone gambling allin every hand, call him with any hand that is ahead of his marginal range

depends on if you can rebuy right away and have a double stack or if you have to bust before rebuying. If you can rebuy right away you should just rebuy right away and play with a deep stack to better exploit your edge vs your opponents. If you have to bust before you can use your single rebuy I would gamble it up for a big stack and then rebuy if you bust.

i assume you are leaps and bounds above the other players, so you should take the rebuy right away if possible to increase your edge as whoosel said. However, if you must bust first, since it's single rebuy, we can't gamble quite as much as in shove 2 faces preflop or any pair postflop, but i'd take a chance with a flush draw or oesd.

wouldnt the appropriate strategy be to rebuy if the guy to your right rebuys and not rebuy if only the guy(s) to your left rebuy?

No the players are probably terrible, im not assuming equal skill, how dumb would you feel when they can't get away from a mid PP preflop and you stack them easily and they're double stack and you're not.

rebuy immediately. If you can't then just play normal and rebuy if you get sucked out on

This is pretty much all you need to know. I think the PCA did a weird structure for their 10k omaha event last year where everyone had a rebuy and addon "life" chip they could use. Lots of people were using this "strategy".
