I'm a harry potter fan. Bigtime. Read all the books and have owned the first 3 movies forever, watched em way too many times. Then the Goblet of Fire came out and totally blew balls so I didn't buy the DVD.

But now that the 6th movie is out I decided I need to rewatch em all so I bought the 4th/5th movies and they just arrived today. I just put Goblet of Fire in with hopes that I wouldn't hate it as much, but so far that has not been the case.

Why does it suck so bad? Mainly because it was one of the best books with an awesome twist and great clues placed from the very beginning to let you try and solve the mystery. But the movie is totally focused on visuals - they cut out all the cool storyline and instead put in new scenes that are visually cool. The story jumps from cool visual scene to cool visual scene, and it is choppy and stupid.

Then they decided to ask everyone to act completely out of character. Dumbledore, who was perfectly acted in the first 2 movies and mediocre in the 3rd by the new guy, becomes totally wrong. He's supposed to be the wise, calm, all powerful stud. But in this movie he's an incompetent angry little old man. He keeps yelling which is something the real dumbledore rarely does. He seems impotent, like in the random scene (which is not in the book) where the ceiling goes all weird and dumbledore looks not only confused, but scared, and then mad eye moody fixes the problem. BULLSHIT. That's not dumbledore at all, he'd be calm and fix it without a second thought. Total crap.

Anyway, it's very tilting to watch them destroy this book. I can't imagine how anyone who didn't read the book could enjoy this movie unless the only thing they cared about was CGI and pretty visuals. Seriously, it was a great story and the movie is a piece of shit.

But for some reason I will let it play the entire way through, just like I do when I get into a starwars mood and rewatch all 6 but force myself to suffer through episode 1.

You're telling me you just figured out now that when you've actually read a book watching the movie version is often horribly painful?

Angels & Demons and The D Code by Dan Brown had the same problems. Angels & Demons was possibly the worst film adaptation of a book of all time. So fucking brutal it tilts me just to think about it . Probably the only book series ever done properly on film was LOTR and that was because they were super dedicated with making it as close to the books story as possible.

Omg.. I just rewtched it today also and literally couldn't even finish it... So pissed they didn't do the entire world cup, made dumbledore look stupid, and left out alot of other key elements... Btw the 6th one is sickkk they changed it up a little bit.. Like the entire scene when dumbledore dies, but it's still good

oh soooooo glad they're making te 7th movie in 2 parts because it's going to be soo long

The guy who's playing dumbledore since the original actor died is a shithead who
1. refuses to read any of the books
2. thus has the completely wrong idea of dumbledore's character

also the director is at fault for being a fucktarded cuntwaffle about it all and clearly not getting the actor to play his character properly

I also hate how they directed hermoine in all the movies (she's way too bitchy/smart ass in a lot of the movies)

Aghhh I also hate all of the stupid little nonsense changes they made in the latest movie

ahhhhhhhhhhhh fuck

You musta missed the part where I said that I hated the movie in the theatre =)

Actually it's funny, I refused to read harry potter when it first came out cause it sounded stupid. My brother and mom loved it and I mocked them constantly. Finally I got really bored while traveling during xmas and was stuck in an airport (chicago, big surprise right?) due to weather and decided to read the first book. I read straight through to the end and loved it. Then a week or so later I watched the movie... and hated it. They changed so many things that I loved from the book and I decided never to watch anymore potter movies.

Then I watched prisoner of azkaban when it came out even though I'd only read/watched sorcers stone. I loved azkaban, then watched chamber of secrets and loves it too. They were both great movies if you hadn't read the book. Then I read goblet of fire and was like "HOLY SHIT THE BOOKS ARE SO MUCH BETTER".

Anyway, movies 1-3 of HP are all pretty good even though they're not as good as the books. I enjoy them. And the 5th movie was ok, not great but wasn't painful like goblet of fire.

Yeah I forgot to touch on this but it's a huge thing that I bitch about constantly. I HATE THE GUY WHO IS PLAYING DUMBLEDORE!!!!!! I think the fact that he refuses to read the books is absolutely ridiculous. How they hell could they cast him for it? BULLSHIT

The original actor had dumbledore down to the last detail. He was perfect. Such a shame he died.

The big problem is that instead of being sad that dumbledore dies, I can't fucking wait for him to die in the new movie so he can be fucking done with. And that's also why I think the last 2 movies will be awesome - no more shitty dumbledore.

I think in the 4th movie, instead of realizing that the actor playing dumbledore sucked and reigning him in, the director encouraged him to be even more wrong. In the 5th movie they did a better job of having the actor get his shit together, though he still was far from good, at least he wasn't horribly tilting.

No I didn't miss anything actually. My question was more along the lines of why the F*** are you surprised about it? Screenplay adaptations of books are almost always like 99% of the time far worse than the books. Not just for Harry Potter I mean in general. I was just shocked you hadn't realized this sooner in life .

Not a fan at all of Harry Potter here. I don't like reading and I didn't like the movies.

oic =) But again that's not new news to me, movies are nearly always worse than the book they're based on, especially if you read the book first. I do feel like the first 3 potter movies did a good job of holding their own, and while they suck compared to the books, as movies they were fun and entertaining. My big complaint is about how they totally bombed on the 4th movie.
