just started playing poker again, well...never really played it much but this time i think ill be more motivated to continue playing.

So i was doing fine with sng's and was up around $5-8 from playing $1 +0.25 in fulltilt..
Then i installed pokertracker and have been playing weirdly ever since. Just not used to all the figures etc but i do know that it will help me in the long term so i just need to learn all the functions n HUD.

got a Question though..which is basically the purpose of this blog post since i didnt feel like embarassing myself by creating a post just to ask this Q.
How do i calculate EV for any hand im in, can HUD show EV?
how do i graph EV in pokertracker or whatever program that people use for EV.

the HUD cant show EV bcuz that would require it to know exactly what your opponents hand is.

You cant know your expected value in a hand without knowing what your opponent has. If you think you know what someone has you can always fire up pokerstove real quick and do some quick calculations, but this is kinda silly since you are likely wrong anyway, and who the hell has time to do that in the middle of a hand?

Also, dont over saturate yourself with a jam packed HUD full of stats and features. Start off with what you already pay attention to, player looseness/tightness and aggression (do they raise a lot etc). Keep it simple. So for example load it up with vpip/pfr/aggression factor and put 3bet % in there for good measure. This will give you a good baseline peak into player habits and get you used to staring at hud screens.

bye now

lol.
thx heaps.

I always read people write "I've been playing good, EV is up however i lose money due to bad luck"
How would they figure out what they're EV is?
Is that based on mucked hands/showdown hands where they find out what the other players hands are?

-> So how can i determine if i have been playing good (+ve EV)

actually ignore that,
i think i found it under graphs -> expected value/money actually won
