I'm obv new here, been lurking here a while and I'm a part of your Icelandic daughter(?) site. Just not enough going on there for me..

I'm a 23 year old computer science student and have been playing online poker for a few years, but just started getting serious about it this year.

I played World of Warcraft for like, 2 years probably and when I decided to give it up - I sold all my gold to a friend. for 40 bucks.

First he shipped me 5, I turned that 5$ into ~75$ playing 2$ SNG's at FTP and then got bored and basically threw it away(cash, higher stakes tournament, such). Then he shipped me 35 bucks witch I have been playing with since. Got it up to ~100 the same way as before and then started playing MTT's and got it to 1k pretty soon. yadda yadda..

My current BR is 250~ and this is because I frequently go to the cash games tables and donate... a lot. Somehow I can't even beat NL5, I just wanted to start from scratch and stop donating, when I think I'm ready - I'm going for some kind of a challenge(more on that later).

Reason I'm rambling about this.. Just hoping some of you guys can share some info, links or general guidelines on where to start. I'm clearly doing something wrong - and cant figure out what.

So.. ?

kthx.

Winning at nl5 is as easy as making a hand and getting payed off. I dont think tight ABC poker is necessarily right, seeing cheap flops with suited connectors is always good against bad players.

If they bet they have a hand, if you bet they will call you.

This is basically what happens every session making me end up even or worse. I usually just stop playing after stuff like this.

I'm not whining about a bad beat, my sessions just seem to be marked by donks hitting draws.

(This would require a lot more details but in my experience so far this is actually the best advice in general)
I started at and play 5 nl also at FT. I found the best thing to do is to just pot premium hands and if someone raises ahead of me pf, I go ahead and repot w/ JJ+ and AK. If I miss, I usually just let it go - minimize loss and don't pay anyone off. If I hit the flop I just start potting every street, lol! Ppl will continuously call down w/ worse and of course typicall you can tell if you are beat.

Also, and probably more important I just limp/call set mine like crazy and hardly every chase anything.

For me, suited connectors etc don't seem to do much good, but whatever, maybe they will work better for your style and depending on your position and the action ahead of you. I think this style works better the more tables you are playing.

Play good cards(Q10o is not a good card for example) in a good position, dont bluf, make good value bets and extract maximum value from every hand. Be patient while waiting for hands, and dont tilt.
