Today, I wanted to tell you about bankroll management that I use.
It's nothing special I think, but from what I have read many beginners have problem with that.
To move up a to a new limit I need 20 bi (buy-in) of that limit.
It's good number for two reasons:
* You can make it fast
* It's enough for comfortable play at new limit
BM is not only about when you go up, but it also tells you when to move down, to rebuild yourself. It is very important to know when to move down.
I have strict rule (maybe too strict) that I move down if I have 18bi of my limit.
This amount gives me comfort that when I move down I have only to make 4/6 bi to return to higher limit.
These rules of mine are basic BM for micro stakes. Personally I will stick to them to nl100. My plan for higher limits is to move up with 25-30-40 bi of new limit, because higher limits means bigger aggression factor means more swings, so more bi will reduce pain of swing. Also amount of moving down will increase to maybe something like 20-30 bi.
My rules for medium stakes are for now in alpha version. I never played medium stakes yet, so I will reconsider them when I move up.
As for now, my BM works good, maybe it is too cautious but, as I wrote earlier on blog I have time to move up and I don't want to gamble.
Hope this help someone
Stay tuned.

20buy in rule i feel is fine if you are very strict about your 2 buyin stop loss move down but a lot of people cant control it and then 20buy ins is def not enough |

Better be 20-25 imo, you ll feel more confortable and tilt less. 2 bis is way too low imo. |

Odds are exactly 50%: it either happens or not | |

move down at 10 bi of a limit
a 2 bi drop down is too soon, two unlucky stack offs and you're back down? |

BRM is strictly to keep you from going broke. Have a reason for your stop loss. If you get uncomfortable having 18 BI's and become a passive fish well then it's psychological and you need 20 BI's. If you play with 5 BI's theres a good chance poker variance will fuck you up and therefore you need more BI's. If you live off your bankroll then you might need 200 BI's to pay for medical bills or the purchase of a new vehicle. Whatever it is it's just to keep you from going broke. If you feel you can still effectively play with 15-18 BI's then do it. Losing 2 BI's is very common though, so dont stunt your growth by quitting too early. You can easily get coolered and sucked out on 6 tabling in the blink of an eye, that doesnt mean you should quit nor are you in any danger of going broke. |

I don't move down right away when I have 18bi, but after session, bc many of my sessions looks that way that I lose some for first 100-400 hands and next running stable.
Really I feel more comfortable going down for a while instead of playing with 10bi.
But thought, make instead of 2 something like 4-5? So move down from 15bi (for me it would be if I loss any more and have $150 then move down to nl5 again)? It that any good?
Thanks for replies

I'd rather you had 23BI's and move down when you get 17-18.
I used to like giving myself a 5BI-shot when I felt I deserved it, and if I lost it that usually meant that I had 15BI's left on the "shot"-level.
Dont have plans like you anymore since it seems im stuck on NL200 and I fail to improve my game :S |
