Self-producing a solo album at home, need opinions from EVERYWHERE (not on the song, but on the mix) before I continue / release this shit.

Not bad. My main gripe is, unless this is going to be an instrumental track, you cant really judge the mix untill the vocals are there. Reason is, that you have all the levels all sitting nice, but once you add the vocals in, it will fuck everything up as you will have to open up some room to give the vocal space in the mix which will effect everything else, especially the snare.

Putting that aside though, its a good mix! However, it is easy hear that the drumkit is programmed (to me). It has no real life and the snare is quite thin. It is compressed to fuck, it is lacking the sparkle, perhpas too much EQ has been cut or it is the sample. There are a few ways to make a programmed kit sound more like it is being played by a human. You can setup some EQ automations to adjust certain frequencies slightly to give it subtle differences throughout, adjust the velocities, use more samples (obviously almost identical for each drum) and other little tricks.

The kick is lacking the low end, however I am aware in certain genres of metal, the lower frequencies of the thump are not preferred and the clickyness is preferred. So adding low end is my own personal choice. You can do this lots of ways, even using sine tones to coincide with each hit, mixed in subtly and you would be surprised with the results.

Cymbols again, sound too samey throughout. Humans just do not play so peferctly!

The guitar playing is very tight and well played! Nice tones and sit quite nicely in the mix.

Get the vocal into the mix so we can hear the full mix

Impressive!

I am a degen. Do not believe in any of my advice.
