Is AK the nuts preflop? Why?

we got an Ace and a king, it is the 2 biggest cards in the deck, its the nuts

but seriously, at micros ppl dont 4bet to light, maybe not even QQ to often and u dont have to get it in w AK preflop since u dont need to be to balanced with your 3bet/4betting range.

AK is a very good way to balance out a 3bet/5bet shove range and a 4bet/calling range, so its good to have it since ull get AK more often then KK for example, and AK plays good vs almost everything as ur friend said.

but you should still 3bet AK since people will call with alot of worse KQ AQ AJ and lower middle pockets vs your 3bet

but when a tight regular player 4bet you at micros he will most likely have KK or AA, since alot of "weaker" players (most TAGs at micros) still will call 3bgets with AK and QQ because they want a "safe flop" low flop with QQ and A/K high flop with AK, wich is pretty bad in general to chase flops with those kinds of hands because they dont play supergood as AA does for example vs both a bluffing 3bet and a supertight nit 3bet

so you should 3bet AK vs majority of ppl because its such a strong hand

but vs a tight player you dont have to "get it in" w AK at the micros, you dont have to 3bet if he is super super tight and fold all those KQ/AQ type hands, u can just call and take a flop with AK vs them and let all of their worse Ax and Kx hands still be in their range

and vs a loose player that dosnt fold 3betting AK is very good, because they will just end up calling with KJ and not being able to fold it on a Kxx flop so u can stack them

and if you have seen a player 4bet with QQ or AK for example before, u dont have to be afraid to 3bet/5bet shove AK vs them, it will never be catastrofic

When u hold AK its less likely that anyone else will have AA or KK since you already hold 1 of each - therefore there are less combos 3 for AA and 3 for KK and you are 44-46% to 56-54% vs QQ depending on suits
Also donks really like to call 3bets preflop therefore you should 3bet it for value
On micros i wouldnt be really comfortable getting it in vs TAGs tho since they are uber nits and would almost always hold KK+ when they want to stack off
However feel free 3bet/shoving vs anyone else

if not played like the nuts it suffers immensely
if not played like the nuts you are basically never in a pot
if never in a pot and never with AK, you are never

Think I struggled with ak when I started, now I love the hand for some reason. I think a lot of people at micro stakes suck with it, they take it way to far, like when they miss, flop play and turn play with it. Also they get in a habit of calling with it as well, don't like that.
