Anyone ever had this problem? I bought my computer about 6 months ago, it's a Gateway. Recently, it's been shutting off at random times. Anyone ever heard of similar problems/have a possible solution? Thanks

Theres a couple of possible problems, it could be a faulty power supply, or even overheating of the cpu. I had a similar problem with a faulty power supply, you should check some computer forums and try to post your problem for a better response. |

try opening it up and cleaning out the cpu fan, if it is the cpu overheating, you might just have a crappy fan that stops functioning well after a while because too much dust has collected on the blades. |

prolly not enough semen on the cpu or whatever it is they use to transfer heat from cpu to heatsink. |

my laptop was shutting off randomly and i got one of the laptop coolers you put underneath it and its stopped doing it. ive never had a desktop with this problem, but its probably an overheating issue like other people have said. |

checklist:
processor fan too dirty, cant cool cpu so it insta shuts down as a safety measure
power supply is failing, same as above
motherboard is bad, when its bad it wont work and give u all these random funky errors like motherboard shuts down, os freezes and u cant even shut it down etc |

build it yourself, not too terribly hard. Theres a ton of content on youtube now adays regarding this. You can end up saving yourself alot of coin and build a beast for $500. |

Have you updated to all the latest security patches? If it's a fresh install and no one has bothered to you might be getting shafted by the remote RPC execution exploit which was shutting down PCs all over the place a few years ago.
Also likely culpits are always power supply, ram then overheating. GL. |

PM me if you need any help building one
Ive built a few on my own, and have helped a few people on TL do it as well.
Before you go that route though, an easy fix for most random shutting down problems is to grab a can of dust-off and clean the inside of your comp. Computers will sometimes shut down as a safety precaution if it runs the chance of overheating, and dust is an easy way of causing heating issues. |
