Thought I'd release a new update on P90X as I've progressed a lot since my last post and can now answer more questions. I'm officially on Day 63 and have pretty sick results so far. I've also been working my ass off on the website which has both my results pictures and any questions/answers RE P90X. I also moved my poker blog there which doesn't have much atm but will be updated more once I move to 1/2 and start putting in more volume.

good job, I go to 24 hour fitness 6 times a day, just started a few weeks ago, used to go regularly before but I took a break afterwards with hella partying and eating out. So I'm trying to lose fat again and gain some muscle. Currently 190lbs prolly somewhere around 19%bf at 6ft1in. Also taking protein supplement with NO-Explode and multi vitamin.
I have the p90x dvd's at home cuz my bro and dad use them but I love going to the gym and working out there. |

19% bf at 6.1ft. Do you really need protein supplement? I delve around 12-14% b.f at 6'0".. really want to start working out to broaden my shoulder and chest and be cut. (I dont wanna have big muscles) I have no experience in working out so I'm not sure where to start. Is this thing pretty solid to start? |

With a protein supplement, it's much easier to get the protein you need and create a calorie deficit which you need to do if you want to get stronger and get cut at the same time. The optimum way for an average person is to create a 500 calorie deficit everyday to total -3500 calories a week which will result in a loss of 1 lb of body fat. If you dont want to take a supplement you'd have to eat more chicken, turkey, tuna etc. and those kinds of foods gets real old fast, tought to be constantly eating basically plain chicken all the time. If you're just going to work on shoulders and chest, you would have to do intense cardio all the other days to keep burning calories and keep your metabolism at a fast pace. I'd reccomend 3-4 days of heavy lifting, and 2 days of cardio because that's a pretty effiecient way of burning calories, enlarging muscles, and getting into better condition at the same time. |

Set's advice is spot-on and I don't really have that much to add. P90X is an all around workout. If for whatever reason you feel you just want to broaden your shoulders/chest and ignore the other aspects then I would probably suggest heavy lifting at a gym. If you've never worked out before and/or don't really know what you're doing, or are generally out of shape and looking to get back into a healthy lifestyle, then I'd recommend starting with P90X for some overall balance then if you still feel the need to broaden your shoulders I'd advocate the gym. P90X isn't some wimpy workout - it's super intense and you are still doing heavy lifting 3 days a week, and I promise you'll be doing more reps/sets then what you would normally motivate yourself to do at the gym. On the off days, you're doing military jump training/plyometrics, cardio, stretching, yoga -- all very important to developing a powerful physique. PM me and I'd be more than happy to help you get started (diet/nutritrion - workout program - w/e). |
