Probably a tougher read than most. I figure its a good book to discuss with others.
Anyone want to form a study group? Or if your strong at math (and also good at poker) and wouldn't mind me annoying you via msn or aim, I'd really appreciate someone to discuss parts of the book with.

I've briefly glanced over the book and have a basic understanding of most of the concepts, but would definitely be interested in some sort of study group if one is coming together. |

Is this from an old book, or something new, tried googling, but ended up more confused. |

Hmm I notice you're a new poker player. Or just recently started taking it seriously. I think It'd be a bad idea to study that book. Not that knowing math, and understanding it is bad. I just think there are much smarter/quicker ways to get good. And applying, or trying to understand a lot of stuff which isn't going to increase ur winrate or make you that much better is ill spent time. (Not that studying poker books isn't smart.)
Just a hardcore, all math book which is 4-5 years old isn't the right approach. I think you'll have much better success studying all the fundementals, all day everyday for weeks, till you have it set in stone. And all the most important math, what you need to know, you can find on charts in books released 2010, memorize them till you got it, and then focus on what's important.
How to exploit fish, and how to make pots large without your oponents noticing before it's too late. How to play in 3b pots and how to steal blinds, how to assert correct value on ur hands, and how these values changes according to the board and action, how to valuebet properly and get the most out of every hand etc, those kinds of things which I'd embrace.

Was mostly boring from what I remember. Although I do remember having a couple of "OMG I never realized that" moments. Marius is correct in the sense that it probably won't help you improve your game that much (at least initially), but for the hobbyist or those that like understanding the game more in depth it's probably a worthwhile read. |

I've heard of it and marius has a point with his rant
I don't remember this book being good for learning to play poker
It's an interesting read nonetheless and maybe some nice threads will come from this studygroup?? |
