So I am barely playing any poker these days and decided that I'll play tournaments instead of cash games because with the miniature volume of hands I'm putting in there's no way I'll make any money from cash games, but if I can win a big tournament I'm in business. Better value for the time I put in since I've been playing usually 1-3 tables and only 1-2 times a week.
Was only playing big massive MTT tournaments and kept making it into the money but busting out in the top 50 or so of thousands of people. So I decided to try some smaller SNG's and played 4 last night, won 1 and got 2nd in another. Fun stuff.
I've also completely changed my playing style compared to what it used to be. Since I'm playing less tables I'm much more focused on playing by feel than by preconveived rules, and I'm going with my gut to make reads which have been right about 95% of the time so far. Made some huge bluffs and huge calls. I think this strategy is so ideal for tournaments cause I'd usually float through a tourney around avg stack size and try to go harrington style of being an overall nit. But the problem was that once I got deep and the blinds were up it was always hard to keep my stack solid cause I wasn't making enough moves and didn't have a stack that could take much risk. this new strat had my stack fluctuating all over the place but in the long run it would grow. Pretty awesome.
Anyway it was a lot of fun. Just felt like ranting a bit about it =)

trust me k2o, you dont want to do this. Why? Because it's exactly what I did, and obviously you should steer clear of anything I do. The ole "I dont make much playing cash so I'll try to score big in a MTT" will just never happen. And you should know how contradictory this concept is because MTT's require even *more* volume than cash to get anything out of them. Regardless, the only times I ever ran deep in a big tourney were when I went flat out balls aggressive just trying to run over anyone in the pot. Some bad decisions here or there where I got lucky, but someone once said "if you arent ever getting your chips in bad then you are doing something wrong" referring to MTT's. Whenever I played like cash and tried to be patient and just pick standard +EV spots, I would always hover around my initial stack size keeping afloat, blinds would rise, I'd become short stacked, and then push/fold for survival until some suckout or dominating hand knocked me out. |

with sngs u have to play a lot more hands if you wanna make decent consistent money. id stick with cash, i know i hate cash as well but it seems its the easiest one to play for a living. sngs are mostly good for bulding brs. doesnt hurt to try it though, coz some people make more money in sngs than they did in cash |

I'm not playing for a living though - just for fun. It's a lot more fun to play the SNG and MTT's. I've taken out a lot of my roll so I'm not rolled for a cash level that can bring in any real money. But $11 for a huge MTT could run me into 10k so that's worth it for me when I'm not playing to bring in money but rather for fun. |
