im watching the film Religulous which is a documentary by a guy like Larry David.
he goes around various christian organisations questioning them about their beliefs.
its a well known film and a "must watch". its a great film to watch whilst drinking because its funny and interesting.
half way through it is illustrated that at least 3-4 other religious figures PRECEDED jesus (sometimes by centuries) but also exhibited very very similar qualities to his tale, ,for example:
born on the 25th dec, born of a virgin, baptised in a river, done miracles such as walk on water and heal the sick, rose from the dead.
one of these is the egyptian god Horus.
i havent any research regarding this since im still watching the film, but it had kinda shocked me. id never heard of this before.

Christianity and its similarity to other religions have been brought up plenty of times before. So has the ridiculousness of the things advocated in the bible and the contradiction it represents.
But yet ppl choose to ignore it and call it "faith"

the problem is religion is that people are taught it from birth like language or social behaviour (saying please and thanks subconsiously).
it takes a huge amount of conscious effort to get out of this trap. and, like social behaviour (again eg saying please and thanks) you're almost always better off continuing the habit than discontinuing it, unless you radically change your lifestyle and the people surrounding you.
back to my OP, i hope you read it and saw what a flabberghasting statement was made: the details of jesus christ were potentially replicated from several previous religious figures

Its false. Horus wasn't born of a virgin, or baptized. The clip was taken from Zeitgeist, which for some reason was widely watched despite being a giant pile of conspiracy theorist bullshit.
Despite those inaccuracies I thought Religulous was pretty funny and entertaining. |

okay, yet the claims are something i would investigate . if even one of them is true to an extent it would be interesting to say the least.
thanks for the info though. |
