i'm going to college with a computer engineer major, but i hate physics with a passion. i was looking at assist.org and it says i only need three semesters worth, compared to the 6 or so in computer engineer.

i want to work with computers, but i hate physics. but i was wondering if anyone knows if software engineering is a good thing to major in? would i have a good future if i got a degree in it? etc etc. or should i just stick with computer engineering even though i hate physics?

some schools like mine(UF) require all engineering majors to a bunch of core classes (calcs, physics etc) so they produce graduates with a good base of knowledge. I dont think you should make your decision based on your like/dislike of physics you should really see if you enjoy programming imo

I would not recommend computer science or computer engineering. I would strongly recommend getting an electrical engineering degree. I switched from CS to EE right before the first day of class and I am very happy that I did. Basically EE is a far more respected degree. You can do a lot of things. Any job that hires a CS major will take an EE major. The same cannot be said for jobs that hire EE majors.

Now I really am a busto. Thanks FTP.

i'm taking physics right now. i know what you mean, but it's more of the fact that i'm pretty bad at physics also, and SE doesn't really require it as much (at least, according to assist.org)

Why let one undergraduate class dictate your future. Man up and I agree go electrical. I graduated structural eng but I wish I had done ee

EE is said to be one of the hardest but most rewarding eng degrees to get. Physics will always be involved, but I didn't find there to be over the top too much when I got mine. If you choose to go this path, realize you got your work cut out for you, but if your determined I promise you that you'll get it. Once it's all done, you have it for the rest of your life.

+1 to Maynards post, I saw this first hand less than a year ago when I was on the hunt for my first real job out of school. You will undoubtedly outperform any other type of engineer in the same field with ease.
