Hey all, I recently just started to get my feet wet in poker after hearing about it, come from TL. I've read pretty much all the beginner things, I have the basic grasp and I follow the articles posted here for micro tables pretty much by law to make sure I'm not doing something wrong. Even though these are just micro tables, I find myself not profiting at all. I've put in 40$ collectively(it's not much but I don't want to lose even more, this was in intervals of 10$ deposits), and I'm currently on my last 4$. I'll win, but at the end of it all I didnt win enough, and I am down money. I realize like many competitive games, you have to take losses on the chin. However, my chin is starting to hurt and I realize I'm probably horrible, but is it just me? Do other people have anything they they found out which was extremely obvious that improved their game when they started out?
Other than, you're awful and quit, is there anything I can do or am I just destined to, quit?
Thanks LP

dont get a tracker yet. you need to actually play poker and not grind right now. |

Thanks guys, I didn't expect me to be good at this game right off the bat, or even in the first few months. However I didnt know I'd be able to be down this fast in micro stakes T_T |

play in fucking position if you can/raise a lot from the button and CO/stop defending pretty but bad hands from the blinds
classify your opponents as nit / loose (for the purpose of assigning ranges) and whether or not he is passive
Bet a lot and more thinly against passives and fold when they raise
It takes a bit more experience to adjust to the more aggressive players so probably avoid them for now unless you have a big hand and have an opportunity to get in a lot of money pre
Something that will help a lot in all aspects of your poker game is to recognize how well your hand plays on later streets
a good rule of thumb at micros is to BE the one betting most of the time and DO NOT CALL OTHER PEOPLE'S BETS AS MUCH |

I'm fairly new as well. It took me about 4 months and 3 redeposits just to be a breakeven player. 1 year in I'm a modest winner at nl5 and an epic spewer at nl10. When I started out I assumed I'd be able to hack micros with ease because I was an experienced gamer. This assumption proved incorrect. If I was you I'd either gear down for a long and humbling learning curve or just quit. |

you need to be serious to win. poker is not about fun, its about making the right decisions and then winning chips.
i'll say the obvious, play TIGHT(medium pocket pairs+ and high suited cards) and play reasonably aggressive when you have a good hand
raise your button when its folded to you with anything thats not total trash
also, spicy's post was pretty good general advice

I remember it took me 3 months to be able to beat NL2~NL10. After a while you'll figure out wtf you're doing, given that you put in the work.

Thanks a bunch guys, I know I suck but I'm trying my best to get better. I realize I have to put in a lot of work, just like anything you want to get good at. I will take these tips and hopefully, stop sucking. |
