Nice $1 Sit'n'Go

So yesterday I played a $1 double or nothing sit n go at PokerStars and from that experience I came to the conclusion that I could probably get to top5 by just folding every single hand. Not this game however.

I went up against a round of player who seemed to employ this very same strategy, folding everything unless they got a high pocket pair or broadway cards. By adjusting my game, I was chip leader the entire game because everyone folded their hands. A lot of the time I ended up raising ~5-7 BB with absolute trash hands and raked in the money.

I think I played maybe 80% of my hands, yet I only saw the flop maybe up to ten times, five of those when other people called each others all-ins for eliminating the other player.

Are these kinds of styles common in micro-stakes sit n go tournaments? I've played some turbo ones but I've never really got any good hands and lost because I either played poorly preflop and postflop. Should I avoid turbo sit n go's all together? Are they bad for someone who's pretty new (~2500 hands played total or something)?

you can always adjust your game to exploit any play style. in these tournaments if everyone is playing like a nit, then hell yea it will be profitable to raise with trash. just like if your playing a bunch of lag'y fucks its better to tighten up.

hopefully your using a HUD by now, and i'd stick with non turbos or ring games, learn to play ABC poker, then expand your game when you've played a lot more hands. post hands that you have questions about on the forums, look at other hands, learn the game. turbos can be very profitable but def. learn the game through non turbos first if you plan on playing SnGs.

oh yeah and fuck double or nothings, play top 3 paid tournys, and if you get the bankroll for it 90 and 180 mans are way more profitable

Yeah I'm using Hold'em Manager but for some reason I didn't have it on. Turns out I didn't really need it anyway, lucky me. I'm not quite sure what to do yet, but I do know I want to earn as much money as possible, hopefully be able to live off of it in the future, so I'm dabbling in between SnGs and cash games to see which one I prefer.

I'm thinking I should get in a couple of hundred thousand hands playing between 1/2 and 5/10NL to get some significant experience playing though, as my minuscule amount of hands right now definitely isn't enough.

yeah big plus on not using hud, i really like this. just don't use a hud if youre one tabling or playing single tables. just keep your mind on how you want to set up your image on tables and how you're going to adjust to table dynamics. make sure you understand at least the basic math of the specific tournament you are playing.

NeillyJQ: I really wanted to prove to myself I could beat NL200, I did over a small sample, and believe Ill be crushing there in the future.

The shitty thing about these is they take as long or longer than the same buy in for larger pool of players. Probably better off playing those.
