My approach under all occasions whether I do buy her what she wants or not is to undersell, and would recommend the same. She knows I run horribly in poker, and we have agreed that I am buying just the headphones and the only gift will be that I clean the flat perfectly ;o

Nah what I mean is, as you go along in your relationship and hopefully becoming more successful you might find yourself buying her stuff that's more and more expensive and she will come to expect this.

Like you said yourself, you'd consider getting that 1.2k bag when you have more money. For most guys this type of thing builds up to spending insane amounts of money on a wedding and then houses and cars and kids and shit which keeps the guy working forever and not getting much action from a fat nagging wife.

Might not happen in ur case obv, just wanted to plug my favourite blog ever.

If you want to buy an expensive bag you shouldnt buy one with a design that she will get tired of after a couple of weeks. Buy a classic (or one that looks like one of those. Mullberry's "bayswater" is a pretty good example imo) one that she can wear to a bunch of stuff. She will enjoy one of those much more and for a longer time.
