A woman who had sex with a 14-year-old boy when she was supposed to be driving him to school will spend at least 10 months in jail.
Kimberley Gale, 24, met the boy at a suburban Melbourne football club where she was manager of his team and also performed strapping and massage duties, the Victorian County Court heard.
After starting a Facebook page for the team, she developed a friendship with her victim, with the pair exchanging 30 to 40 messages via the social networking website as well as mobile phone texts, Judge Susan Pullen said on Wednesday.
Between March and June this year, Gale told the boy while she was driving him to school that she thought he was "hot", rubbed his leg and said she wanted to spend more time with him.
She then took him to her home and had sex with him on two occasions, two weeks apart. He received late notices from the school both times, the court heard.
Judge Pullen said it was only when the victim received 10 late notices, leading the school to inform his mother, that the offences were uncovered.
His mother "became suspicious" and questioned her son and Gale about the late arrivals.
Gale blamed traffic, but when questioned by police she admitted to having sex twice with the boy while knowing he was a minor.
Two football club officials gave character references for Gale. One described her as a reliable, friendly person, while the other said they were "shocked" to learn of her offences.
Gale sat sobbing with her head in her hands as she was sentenced after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual penetration with a child under 16.
Calling the case "serious and disturbing", Judge Pullen jailed Gale for two years and two months, with 10 months to be served immediately and 16 months suspended for two and a half years.
A psychologist's report said Gale had been "looking for love and security" rather than being a sexual predator, and the prosecution accepted force had not been used.
Judge Pullen said she thought Gale's prospects for rehabilitation were "quite good", but her offences were serious.
While it was possible she had not planned to have sex with the victim the first time, the same could not be said of the second offence.
"It was clear you knew by the second time that what you were doing was wrong."
With 23 days already served behind bars, Gale will be released in September next year.
