So I'm heading out to play live @ Morongo in about 4 hours, I'd go someplace better like the Commerce but I'm not 21 yet . Basically this is gonna be my first time playing live and I just need a few pointers on etiquette, chip handling, or any other advice that will make my actions a lot smoother.

Not much too say except typical things i guess. Tip the dealer if u win a big pot, don't slowroll etc etc.

Say that you beat 25NL online, they'll think ur crazy

I wouldn't worry about it too much. You could play on that you're looking inexperienced, taking your time with decisions (getting used to counting chips live could take some time) so they think you're a fish. Extra edge is always good.

My favourite line is Bet/Fold. I bet, you fold.

Don't slow roll. Don't ask to see their cards if you fold etc.

One particular part of live poker etiquette is the showdown between two players when there is a bet and a call. The person who bets and gets called shows their hand first because you paid to see his hand.

Some faggot ass dealers will say shit like "okay, flip them up" when it's a HU pot but don't let that cunt control the flow of the game. Just either wait for the bettor to show or say something like "I called YOUR bet" and the rest of the table will usually understand.

TheHuHu4 coming soon :)

Always announce how much u raise before u put in chips into the pot - if you are playing first time u can mess up chips and instead of 3*50 throw in 3*500, but if you announced 150, it will still account for bet of 150 even if u threw 1500 in.

Always put all chips u wanna bet /raise with one move - if you put in a 1000, and reach back for another 1000, you wont be able to do so, and ur bet will be a 1000.

Protect your cards, so bad dealer doesnt fold your hand despite u wanted to play ( happened few times ).

And most important: have awesome patietnce to deal with all kind of douchebags/retards when playing live.

Can this be solved by just placing a chip as a card protector or do they still make mistakes even if you do that?

i just played live for the first time in a casino at macau and its pretty easy to pick up. basically just know when its your action, protect your cards, and think about what you're doing before you make a decision. the dealer will change you up so if the bet is 50 and you put in a 1000 chip and dont say anything, it is assumed to just be a call. announce your raises and how much clearly. also, i found it helpful listening to the table conversations and how different people act, its pretty easy to spot the regulars, especially in a foreign country because they know the dealers/other workers/other players all pretty well.

Yep, never saw a dealer muck cards with a chip on it lol. Thou make sure u dont place chip before it gets to you and only when u wanna play, simple tell that will give away that you have a hand ;D

Keep your cards held between your fingers at all times, really. If you don't physically protect your cards yourself, after playing enough live you will get burned eventually so just get into the habit of doing it straight away

The weird thing is I think McCain will win this. Im 100% certain Obama wont be elected and you guys can mark my words - Sheitan

also, upon winning a hand, don't ever release your cards until the dealer has pushed you the pot.

It's been mentioned already, but you really need to familiarize yourself with the one-chip rule. If you have a $100 chip in your stack, and your intent is to raise the pot with that chip, you cant just throw the chip in there and expect it to count as a $100 raise. You need to say "raise" and THEN throw in the chip. Even better is to say "raise to $100" or "raise $100" whichever is your intent, and then throw it in, in case you still somehow get confused and throw in the wrong chip. Also try to follow the action. You dont want people telling you it's your turn, or acting out of turn because you thought some guy didnt have any cards. It's ok to just be like "is it on me?" when you're unsure. As for showdown pots, I usually prefer to fastroll and instantly show my hand. If the board reads KQJ47 and I show 78o and he mucks, do I really need to see what he had? Now if he bets and I just call, then I usually let him show first. But if he's all hesitant then it's pretty obvious he has air so I'll flip my rags and if I'm good I'm good..

Thanks for the advice everyone, I had an overall pretty good experience. I was successful at being sociable and caught onto technicalities really quickly. I was pretty surprised at how much information I got from just looking around the table as the other players looked at their cards immediately after they got them. Or from nitty people behind me already stacking chips for a raise preflop, allowing me to fold what otherwise would have been some lightish CO and HJ raises.

Carthac I live in LA, around USC campus
I'll definitely look into playing @ the commerce, but what are the consequences of getting caught. If they just kick you out then I wouldn't feel bad about trying but if they confiscate your money or something then that might be a problem. I'm a pretty small Asian guy and people say I look 15
