So a friend of mine needs some income. He's really smart and probably fairly level headed when it comes to these things. Knows very little about poker except the rules of hold'em. Reasonable math skills and good deductive skills. Doesn't have to be a high hourly, but it'd be cool if he could make like 10 bux/hour or so fairly fast. Obviously I'd have to teach him some stuff but overall I'd like it to be as simple as possible. Any ideas?

get him to read this book, when i first started it helped a TON.
then i'd say to spot him $50, get him to start playing nl2 at stars - start him off by playing 2 tables so he can learn the software, then slowly get him to play more and more tables (standard abc tag, etc.) really emphasize to him that folding whenever he feels unsure is most likely 90% the correct thing to do.
can definitely make 10$ per hour at nl5 if you can play a shit-ton of tables. then again, i don't know if he's the multi-tasking, quick thinking type..
but yeah, definitely get him that book. was a godsend for me |

umm sngs ... fairly easy to learn them and he can mass table them
as for cash game books ... I'm sure there are better things to start then theory and practice...
this new ebooks are realy good for begginers... I know that Tri guy has that low stakes "blue print" i have and it looks totaly ok
even that Fees's book is much better then this sklansky book and it's totaly free
coaching sites... there is bunch of begginer series
blah too sleepy now maybe later i write something more if i remember |

If you are looking for immediate profit, I would say look elsewhere
If you are looking for profit maybe a couple months down the line, have him play FTP 6 max rush after he gets his feet wet. Very profitable atm |

how fast does he need to start making $10/hr?
lowstakes HU SNG's are really soft and low variance. or mass-table 2NL. even if he's bright I don't think he'll be able to make $10/hr for at least a little while though.
NL O8 is supposed to be the game where people who know what they're doing have the biggest edge over fish but I have no idea how to play it. as I'm typing this I just noticed in Stars update that they added new 6max NLO8 tables heh. probably not enough traffic to make it a viable option for steady grinding income though I'm guessing. |

His winrate at NL5 to make 10$ an hour would have to be pretty high I think. I 24 tabled NL5 FR alot last month and beat it for ~6bb/100 or 3BB/100. I got in ~1k hands per hour. I earned ~3.50 an hour, + rakeback. I'm guessing he'd have to about double my winrate to get to his goal, so I dunno if that is realistic for someone just starting out. |

Yea I don't think it's low limit cash to be honest, but I figured that there might be some push/fold stuff for SNGs or something that'd be easy to learn. We're not building a future mid stakes grinder here, at least that's not the goal, but rather trying to find a "quick fix".
Mcdonalds, for reasons having to do with the Swedish tax and school system, is not much of an option. |

HU cash, fastest money on the net. You could probably teach him to bumhunt NL50 on FTP just single-tabling. |

I don't know if the super turbos on FTP are still alive but the lower stake ones are very easy and you don't need to know much about poker besides some good push/fold strategy with respect to stack sizes. Take a look at those. |

teach him ICM (there is a software at pokerstrategy that does that for you) and make him play 2 usd sng or smth. Thats how I started my roll from 50 to 300 or smth before moving to cash |

SNGs are definitely the best choice. Soft, easy to learn, high hourly.
The disadvantage is that he won't learn real poker in the process. |
