I have been playing a while and got good enough to easily beat 25nl.
I have a mental issue with poker that forces me to cash out anything I lose 4 buy in's. Its keeping me from being successful at poker.

So here is what I do.

Every month on pay day I say "I guess I'll try my luck at poker again"
This week I bought at 500.00 after 3, 12 table 4-6 hour sessions I'm up to 850.00 and 30 vip's away from a $75 pokerstar bonus.

Now my most recent session I went from 730 to 930 then started to lose until I stopped at 850.00 Now to me I considering this a horrible losing session but why? I increased 120.00 but its enough to make me cash out feeling like I'm losing to much of my own money.

It doesn't make sense I make 1500.00 a week at my job why should I care about losing 850 BUT I DO and I hate myself for it because I see my f list from starcraft like fayth and others doing great and its inspiring.

Maybe I need a poker therapist lol but I can really use the extra money poker brings. But a mere 200-300 a month due to my 3-7 day sessions before cashing out is not cutting it. I really want build up a bankroll to get up to 1-2.

making a couple thousand playing poker is better than making nothing playing starcraft or world of warcraft. If you're making $40k a year at a job, and can make $20k playing poker isn't making $60k a year while playing a game better than making $40k playing another game?

really depends on the level of satisfaction you get from doing more enjoyable activities.

If you're going to be on your computer reading facebook, talking on MSN etc... why not make some money at the same time?

Only play when you feel like playing and don't feel as if you need to for the money or whatever. The money should come second. I play poker when I'm bored and want to do something instead of just surfing the web. This way when I have my down time waiting for laundry/food to cook etc... I can open a few tables, make a little bit of money and enjoy the rest of my life.

mehh downswings.

just eat the downswing like a man and be brutally honest with yourself and look over hands to see if you've fucked up or it's just variance. pretty fine line imo.

edit: btw OP to be a long term winner at 1/2+ you're going to have to put in some work and really make improvements on your game. It's not going to happen overnight or even over just a few months. (unless you're actually quite talented at this game) Just play it for fun and enjoy it.

comon man, you're making poker out to be some terrible evil game. You may see poker as a stupid game but others may (gasp) actually enjoy this game. Might be hard to understand but please do.

I deal with downswings by just taking a small break. The break could be a few days to a few hrs depending. I definitely wouldn't withdraw during one if it was big since it would just put more stress on me to play good so I don't go busto.

The problem is losing a couple BI back after your up like 8BI isn't really a downswing is it? if that's a downswing I wish all mine are like that hehe. Just gotta think about the long term.
