heres the situation:
- have a business idea, probably better than the last one i had (didnt make shit since i sold it to a VC before) -> also not the website idea which was lol and out of my area of expertise tbh
- funding is meh (can cover like 40%, and that's like i dont eat till 2012
- unlike before this business idea will require a lot of legwork and talking to people which I like
- obv risk of failure, but Im pretty sure it is at a minimum and +EV
- time is always a factor, but if i rush and expose or do the wrong thing i might fuck this up
- the idea is scalable , meaning if it does extremely well, i can make bank
- I am getting old, cannot take risks like this, since this alienates me even more from poker, which i am doing terribly at the moment tbh, but what can i do right?
so now my question is?
Poll: Funding for Project
(Vote): Family, Relatives (harder and slower)
(Vote): VCs, People I dont know(high variance but faster)
(Vote): Fund it myself(sell shit - risky as fuck) more monies for me
If you have some insight that you think can help me weigh my options that'd be great, I'm a person with an open mind and will absorb and process any inputs, I posted here since LP is full of smart young aggressive people

I was afraid to hear that, but yeah it makes sense to just sell it for x amount - i just had a terrible experience like 6 years ago with that wherein i told myself to never again sell ideas since i made only like 1% of what i should have, but obviously it was easier to just do a presentation but will just probably get the minimum for this. It's not some huge corporate idea but the demand for it could potentially be very good even better than the last idea I had. |

How sure are you that this idea is brilliant? |

Yes but of course I have yet to test it's brilliance haha. It's nothing special though, needs a lot of work which funding can solve - it's one of those things you know wont totally fail, just fall short of expectations, i hope im not underestimating costs to develop this though coz that would suck. how's the internet marketing thing you've been into? ive been doing research on that but not that much, this idea of mine is more of a real-life application thing that is why it requires a lot of work. God sometimes i wish young enough and just run with this, now im just so much of a nit when it comes to risk reward stuff |

Ok i'll probably just go ahead and fund this myself and just start really small and see where it goes. Just thinking about it all the time gets me drifting to unrealistic levels then eventually just get burnt out overthinking this whole thing lol. Poker is still easier when i come to think of it - that whole website fiasco of mine kinda gave me phobias with ideas and how easy it is to delude yourself into believing stuff if you don't consult a lot of experienced people. |

This. I don't know if you have done any market research etc to know how accurately you can guage a predicted response. If you haven't I would suggest doing a quick read of a marketing text book to get a quick overview of consumer needs and wants, knowing your consumer segment and trends, threats and opportunities, marketing mix etc. This should in theory help you make an informed decision on what the best option is by giving you a better idea of success. Not only will it give you an overview of the marketing process it should also give you some confidence in your product/service going forward (or make you realise you're wasting your time/money).
Marketing by Kotler, P., Brown, L., Deans, K., Burton, S., & Armstrong, G. is a book I would recommend. |

I highly recommend doing some research on whether your government supports any sort of small business loans program. Those can be very beneficial and have some soft terms in case you get stuck. |
