So here's the question - what can be done to safeguard vs this type of shit? Anyone know?

You may think the only people capable of snooping on your Internet activity are government intelligence agents or possibly a talented teenage hacker holed up in his parents’ basement. But some simple software lets just about anyone sitting next to you at your local coffee shop watch you browse the Web and even assume your identity online.

“Like it or not, we are now living in a cyberpunk novel,” said Darren Kitchen, a systems administrator for an aerospace company in Richmond, Calif., and the host of Hak5, a video podcast about computer hacking and security. “When people find out how trivial and easy it is to see and even modify what you do online, they are shocked.”

Yes, the 80s were fun times. Welcome to 2011.

Jesus fucking christ. Thanks for the laugh

edit: wow, what the fuck. They even mention in the article what this particular "new" software is and happen to mention it was released in october last year which were when MOST 'journalists' wrote about it.

Not browse public wifi on unsecured sites. Most sites you would have to have protected have the entire session encrypted in SSL. This article is written about a simple trick someone figured out that has always existed, posing as another user on a totally insecure website on a totally insecure wifi connection. If you have WPA enabled on your home wifi or wherever you are surfing then you are fine unless someone has figured out your wifi password to join your network, and then happens to be using firesheep, and then happens to be watching while you browse on sites that do not use any form of encryption. FYI, facebook now offers encrypted sessions now.

bye now

WPA or not, it's easy to bypass it. It's 1000 times better to use a wired connection. Trust me.

Shin-il : Yeah it was very very very good for me too. Rekrul : YOU MOTHER FUCKING FUCKING SON OF A BITCH

It's only easy to bypass if someone is using a ridiculously weak PSK. There are no known cracks for WPA, it's all just brute force, and with a properly generated password could take 30 years from a NSA warehouse full of super computers.

bye now
