To take my mind off poker I decided to "trial run" a few games to take advantage of my decent gaming rig. To date, they have all blown goats:
1) GTA IV
2) Crysis
3) Crysis Warhead
4) Mass Effect
Jesus do they make good games anymore? TF2 is the only thing worthy of my significant gaming prowess these days. All I have left now is Assassins Creed, Gears of War, and Dead Space. Never played any of them, so here goes.
Dont know how much of mass effect you played but when i first played it i hated it and stopped playing. Then went back a year later and played it again and got engrossed in the story and loved it.

mass effect is really good.
gta IV is ok.
not really sure what you're looking for in a game, if you compare these games to TF2 you are looking in the wrong place. these single player games aren't driven by skillbased, competitive environments.
honestly it sounds like you should play Quakelive (which is free), starcraft 2, heroes of newerth. you have been looking in the wrong places.

mass effect is great just because of the story, but the gameplay is pretty weak
with mass effect 2 its quite the opposite, gameplay is pretty decent and the story sucks compared to the first one

i havn't played any games in 4 years or so except starcraft 2. Do they still make any games that compare to half life 1,2 and deus ex? I've heard deus ex 3 and thief 4 are in the making so next year could be a golden year for games.

I thought GTA4 was pretty good. Character development in it was really well done, and I found i wanted to keep playing to find out what was gonna develop in the story. I dont know why you thought it sucked goat.
I am a degen. Do not believe in any of my advice.

Assassin's Creed is pretty awesome, although I will tell you right now the 1st one is a little repetitive.
The 2nd and 3rd are 20x better.

You mean you found games designed to be easily beatable by kids aged 12-15 boring? How shocking. Play a game like BW, SC2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Counterstrike, or COD Modern Warfare 2 if you're looking for competition. Seriously if you want competitive play look for the game with the biggest player base and the largest group of hardcore followers. That's where the difficult games will be found.

I didn't liked mass effect 2 either. I'm looking forward to deus ex 3 now, hope they don't keep delaying it so much.
