This new shit-storm-cluster-fuck has gotten me back into poker. I figure that instead of wasting my time watching and playing games like starcraft 2 I can play a game I enjoy equally (if not more. I prefer more cerebral stuff).

The goal here is to replace all mindless internet browsing/TL/pr0n with poker and other things I see value in.

The history:

About a year ago I was 19 and playing really bad poker at micro's, playing as many tables at a time chasing bonuses and rake. I was so immature and impatient that I missed the point GETTING BETTER. I played horrible post flop 'cause I felt entitled from my pre-flop range and busy because of all of my tables. I was clicking the buttons, not playing the game.

Before I got rakeback and a bonus offer from FT (and then proceeded to be a jackass. It's all my fault, no delusions here) I doubled my roll in 1c 2c EZPZ, so I'm pretty confident in playing ABC (real ABC, not ABC except for X and Y and Z like most new players (including me) do/did.

The plan:

- Max two tables

- Analyze every single hand played post flop, something I NEVER did before.

- Never change play because of bonuses or the prospect of climbing up limits faster, it's a trap.

- Never open up range due to impatience (one of the reasons I want to learn poker is to master patience, a rare skill IMO).

Can you guys think of any other points or rules I should stick with?

Tell me what you think! P.S if you have questions about Canada I might have a few answers.

it all sounds really great in theory, and saying a bunch of cool stuff is cool, but i dont think its that easy in practice. and i really think two tables is too few if you really want to do it for anything other than a hobby

as for your list, if you actually want to have any kind of longterm success, i think something that trumps everything you said, is to not withdraw from your bankroll almost ever. its arguably the single biggest pitfall that people have that disallows them to reach the stakes they could and should play (although, when i think about it, at the same time, people often are playing stakes that are just too high for their skill level, or are a little underrolled, so.. i dunno)

assuming you do everything else properly, its just sooo important. even withdrawing like 1k when you are at 5k is a massive massive leap backwards if you are trying to get the highest hourly in the smallest amount of time "safely"!!

Wouldn't a notable exception to this be paying your coaches with your bankroll profits? Obviously if you buy too much coaching you won't be able to to move up, but if you invest some of your winnings in a coach and use some of it to move up, wouldn't this be more ideal than simply investing all profits in the next shot?

the games you own at, end up owning you

the point is to get better though, thus two tables instead of four. I want to be able to tighten up my play right from the start. I don't want to learn many bad habits.

Great advice about bankroll, that's what I fucked up on last time if you read my busto blog.

i mean i guess so, i should just assume HEM / PT3 / some kind of website membership are included, but these are really negligible when compared to the kind of withdraws i read about, like people taking half their roll when they hit 2k, or something like that

i mean, i dont remember the cost cause its been years, but i assume even the "expensivest" pt3/hem is only like 200-250 tops, and the website memberships are like a paltry 20-30 bucks a month or less, arent they?

and i suppose you can usually get to the nl25 or higher before doing either, and as for coaching, if you social network, you can often get free sweats, i dont think anyone in their right mind should be paying like 100/hour or whatever ludicrous amounts some people charge, unless you have a really good idea, and we're talking way down the road imo, that should never be the first avenue of ways to improve outside of just playing

i need some perfect micro stakes players to stalk on the tables

i would be delighted to just watch them play without even seeing their hole cards.

i think i could learn a lot that way.

right now i'm waiting to finish a semester of school and get a job till i can start poker-ing
