In Canada, it is Victoria Day weekend meaning that the fish will be coming in droves to Casino Niagara. I went on Friday with $200 cash to check out the 1/2 tables. I promptly lost my roll in about 30 minutes due to some overplaying my hands (TPTK and sets losing out to draws). I withdrew another 100 and lost that within 15 minutes. I should have quit by now but I realized that I wasn't playing horribly and the problem so far had been some crappy luck. I withdrew another 100 and recouped all my losses and came up $100 on top.

I don't want this to look like a brag post but rather a demonstration of how bad players are at casinos. I'm not even close to being a good player but the people there were just horrible. Raising 6x+ the BB in any position was common and it would not be uncommon to see all-ins every few hands. All I had to do was wait for a nice hand and punish the people drawing when I hit.

Overall, I was very satisfied with how I played and hope to return within a month or so. The live poker tips in the articles section by Myth actually helped quite a bit as well.

people raise 6bb+ because the whole table calls if you don't. it's not uncommon to get 2-4 callers half the time anyways.

6bb+ is standard live, anyone who raises 3bb I just laugh and say "lol internet kiddo" and take their money when my 2 4 offsuit flops trips and you're sat there thinking no 2's are in his range of calling 3bb's preflop. My usual is 7+ 1 per limper.

That's a great write up for live. Obviously don't take it as the gospel, but live is so different to online. Especially lowstakes live. People are there to gamble.

The one main thing about live that I'd make note on is to BET BIG. They'll draw to anything, 1 out doesn't matter, "it has to happen once" a gutshot? well that's 4 outs, I have to call $20 to see if it comes "6's have been coming all night and that's what I need so calling pot to hit a 6 is perfect logic" Protect your hands like mad. And valuebet the F*** out of everything, it'll get called all the way.

Also suited connectors will soon become you're best friend and you'll start hating AK Flopping the nuts with 56suited and getting paid 300BB will happen a lot more than flopping an ace and being ahead all the way in a 5way pot.
