Verizon crippling phones?

So I'll be starting my new job next week and need to get my own cell phone since my current employer pays for mine. I went to a verizon store to get a feel for their offerings and noticed something strange, every single phone except the iphone was practically unusable. I was only looking at high end android devices by HTC/Samsung/LG, phones I have played with before outside of verizon's store and was quite perplexed at how utterly FUBAR these phones were behaving. Choppy frame rates, shitty scrolling, super laggy on input, homescreens a complete mess, every single possible widget running at the same time. I know customers fuck with phones all day but when compared to the iphone it seemed like they went out of their way to make non Apple devices look as crappy as possible in comparison. Has anyone else ever observed this?

Anyway gonna buy a new HTC Sensation 4G this week as soon as it's released on Tmobile. Little nervous about the ATT acquisition, but I figure by the time they begin dismantling Tmo's 4G network that I'll be due for an upgrade anyway and can safely migrate to the new network standard without wrecking my 4G functionality. The big concern for everyone is that since 4G phones have to have special receivers to operate on that part of the wireless spectrum, that ATT will change everything and basically turn every non ATT phone into a brick requiring you to renew/upgrade to get a working phone again.

i have a samsung instinct. i like sprint, so i chose to sign up with them, and didn't want to pay $200 for an Evo (1 year ago) so I thought, hey, this phone looks nice, just a little smaller screen but has qwerty keyboard.

the phone is so glichy and buggy i have been tempted to smash it so many times. words cannot describe how glichy it is. if i could do it all over, i would have just gotten an iphone with at&t

I just got a samsung galaxy s2 and i'd recommend it. dual core processor, amazing 4.3" screen, great interface (pretty much copies the iphone) and exceptionally light and thin considering the hardware.

edit. my brother is an apple fanatic and has an iphone 4 and hes admitted it's a better phone in almost all aspects.

got the evo4g pretty satisfied with the phone, but not with sprint crap service/ reception

I'm def gonna go with Tmo. I've had them before and they were always good to me. Plus their slack enforcement of the rules is nice for tethering and such. They kinda take a "dont ask dont tell" policy towards user accounts. I just thought it was odd that verizon kiosk phones were running so poorly it almost looked like it was done on purpose, to steer people towards other devices. A couple of those phones I have actually used at friends so I know how they are supposed to perform. Meanwhile their big shiny apple display runs without a hitch.

I have totally noticed this. The iphone is just such a solid product which is why i convinced my parents to switch over to it. If they have trouble running a computer well when it glitches out I didnt want anymore phone calls about their cellphone not working right. I know that these android phones have not been preforming to par at all and like you said they have everything under the sun running at once.

Also to note that its easy to replace an iphone screen but you can't just replace an android phone screen you have to have the warranty or get the dam thing replaced for a fortune. This seems to happen all the times since none of them have good cases.

verizon is all overpriced garbage, especially their phones. they lag like crazy too
