I’ve been trying to convince myself to start writing a blog for a while now, but I’ve managed to put it off for the last few weeks. I woke up this morning and had a list of things I had to get done… so far I’m making some progress. In case you haven’t figured out yet, there was no kidnapping.

If you’ve read this far… well I’m surprised to say the least. I thought most of you would have realized this blog will not be extremely exciting by now. Actually, that’s not true I’m selling myself short, I’ve got a lot of pretty awesome blog posts planned out for the upcoming week, so I think you guys should all enjoy it. I’m planning on updating it every few days.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Greg. I’ve been involved in the poker world for quite some time now, 4 years I believe. Some of you guys may remember me from the days of Baller Poker (when it was still around).

Supplements + Working Out

I put an order in for some new supplements last week! Over the past year I’ve gotten involved in working out a fair bit at the gym. Not to the point where I’m some big looking juice freak (not the look I want), but just trying to build muscle and generally stay in good shape. I’ve always thought guys who have really big muscles (and think they’re jacked) but have alot of body fat are complete fools. For anyone who goes to the gym you know exactly who I’m talking about! Anyways here’s a picture of the supplements I just bought (excuse the low quality blackberry pics):

I picked up a ten pound bag of ON Gold Standard Whey. This stuff is awesome, regarded as the best protein you can get your hands on these days. I picked a not so great flavour however, Rocky Road. Got a little too adventurous, I know to stick to the straight chocolate from now on. Usually end up taking 1 shake before my workout around lunch and one within 30 minutes after my workout.

I also picked up some ON Casein, which is a protein which takes longer to digest. The idea is that you take it right before bed so that your muscles don’t start breaking themselves down throughout the night! Went for cake batter… turned out to be an okay flavour, but not great.

I also bought a pre-workout because it was on sale. I’ve never been a huge fan of pre-workouts, seems like most of the time you’re just buying a powder loaded with caffeine (not a great thing to be putting in your body). One of my buddies that I work out with says he can feel his concentration increase and he gets a way better pump when he takes this stuff… I’ve yet to feel anything. Any of you guys use stuff like Jack3d?

Also got ON Multivitamins and Glutamine capsules. Pretty much just your standard multivitamin, but has higher amounts of various vitamins than normal multis since they are for working out. Glutamine just helps your body break down protein and build muscle. I’ve never actually taken Glutamine caps before, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start taking them.

I’ve hit a plateau as of late in terms of building muscle. I’m 6’4 and around 215 pounds and I’ve been stuck between 210-220 for the past month or so. I’d like to add 10 pounds perhaps, but really not looking to bulk up much more than that.

American Players

I had a pretty awesome week last week. I helped a poker player I met from Miami come down and relocate to Canada (for the purposes of his Full Tilt Poker account). To be clear, he didn’t actually move down here, he just flew down for a few days so that I could help him set up a moneybookers account and get his Full Tilt account switched to Canadian residency status. Pretty pumped to say I got everything set up so that he was able to cash out the day after he landed!

So all in all he was pretty happy with the trip, and I was happy that I could help him out. It’s pretty incredible that Americans can’t cash out their Full Tilt funds, yet I was able to help an American who flew over to meet me get access to his funds within 48 hours! Needless to say I have a few more American players that I will be helping out over the coming weeks. I really feel sorry for all these Americans who are falling victim to all this ridiculous stuff going on with legislation and Full Tilt. At the end of the day PokerStars comes out looking like a real gem from all of this!

Grapples

I was out grocery shopping yesterday and I came across something that I had never seen before! I’m sure alot of you American guys have seen this already, but it’s new to me:

Grapples! Supposedly they are apples that taste like grapes! I wasn’t really sure if these are some sort of genetically modified foods or if they are something else! A friend was trying to tell me that they are just apples that are soaked in grape juice, but that didn’t really make sense to me. Anybody have any idea how these things are made! They cost $5 US for 4 of them. I figured I’d give them a pass since I already had some apples at home.

Anyways that pretty much does it for this blog! I’ve got some pretty exciting posts coming up, so keep reading! Thanks for your time guys!

They are apples that they dump into a tank full of grape flavoring and let them soak for a while. I've had them and they don't really taste like grapes. Waste of money

@gororokgororok Why share most things people blog about haha?

@blackjacki2 Yea doesn't really seem that cool. Soaking in grape flavour is not exciting at all... was hoping they were genetically modified lol.

As far as working out goes....

A good training program, sleep, and nutrition are 95% of the results you will get. Supplements are meant to be supplements to your workout -- not a major factor.

As far as supplements go generally the best to go for at the start is protein (which you are on already) and creatine. Vitamin D, BCAAs, glutamine, carnitine, beta alanine, caffine, etc. are all ok. Jack3d does contains a bunch of them in one formula which is fine and you should notice some results through that if you wanted to use it.

Don't put too much faith in supplements though.

@xdrb thanks for the info. Already pretty dialed in as far as diet and sleep goes. I don't even feel the need to use supplements, just thought it would make for an interesting blog post to see what everybody else uses! Cheers

What about fish oils? I've found that my joint pain has dramatically disappeared since taking them.

you can cashout from FTP if u relocate??

I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance, by running away from the scene of an accident.

@jewlian Yea heard they help alot! I haven't run into any joint pain so I'm fortunate in that respect "knock on wood". Where are you getting your joint pain? PS you are in Toronto?

@twisted Thanks pal!

@Doomer Yes you can cash out once you get your address switched. Let me know if you need any advice!

Yeah I live in Scarlem. I used to get bad pain in my shoulders partially due to bad form and joints. After taking the pills and doing some shoulder strengthening exercises, everything went fine afterwords.
