"The next few months of my life are pretty much going to define the rest of my future."

You're putting a lot of [in my opinion, unnecessary] pressure on yourself here. All you can do is make the best choices you can for yourself given the knowledge / wisdom you currently possess.

You also have far more flexibility than you seem to be aware of at the moment. You'll have the capacity to change huge aspects of your life far, far into the future...your job, your value system, your physical location, your self-identity...

...unknowns ARE scary, yes, but they're also opportunities for growth. There's a certain comfort to the poker grind, the sort of certainty that comes from playing a game with clearly defined rules [even if the game itself is very volatile.] Moving into something new sounds like it will serve you very well, even if means fear and anxiety for awhile while you get your feet under you.

I wish you well, Devin.

good read, your a bright guy dj, everything will work out for you. I'm pretty much in the same boat, giving up poker full time and going back to school.

One thing you must realize, is nothing will ever go as planned. You're a great person and a great player, and assuming you enter the work force, I'm quite sure you will excell there as well. Be confident in yourself and go with the flow. Theres no reason to think or stress about the unknown, just focus on what you know and be your best at all times.

I wish you the best DJ,
Ryan

an interesting read as always. You do a good job of conveying your feelings during the trip, re: degen lifestyle, etc.
The last year or so I think I've been dealing with a lot of the same issues.

Dunno if you've read it but Busquet's blog from awhile back (around black friday) about college is related/interesting. Dealing with things like personal growth/values in your early 20s (since you're just getting out of school so the education bit is a little unnecessary).

I really agree with what Pillars said. It's scary, but that's the way it is.
I hope you don't let it get you down. These are some of the best years of your life, you're supposed to be figuring stuff out.
