Good or bad deal? Jason and I want a car like right now. Nothing fancy, just something that will last us and get us around.
We're total car fish though, so if it's reasonable enough to buy, my older brother suggested we take it out to a mechanic and check the carfax report to make sure it's not rebuilt or something.
Anyone suggest anything else?

that is a fuckton of miles, price seems avg/top end for that mile area. Do what your bro said but a car with that many miles should look into what is the typical stuff that breaks at around what miles. Might have some expensive fixes soon or be perfect to run into the ground |

Go in there and tell them that u will buy the car TODAY if he will sell it to you for $7100 which is in your price range. He will probably come back after talking to his boss and take off 300-400 dollars, tell them next that you will buy the car for $7300 or you will be walking out. He'll probably go down to 7900. Walk out after that but make sure he gets your phone number so that he can call you if he changes his mind because you really like the car. He will call you back within a few hours with a new offer. He probably wont go down from whatever that offer is, so if you really like the car take the deal.

It's pretty fairly priced tbh. 87k miles is not a fuckton for a 7 year old car, thats like 13k miles per year which is on the very low end when it comes to average yearly mileage, which suggests this car was not driven much, which means it was probably well taken care of. Considering it's fully loaded it probably had a responsible owner which says a lot about the likely condition of the vehicle/engine. Getting it for ~7k would be a good deal, so def try what Crown said and see if you can get it down there. Dealer probably paid like 4500 for it so fuck him.
BTW I wouldnt worry too much about taking it to a mechanic for inspection. Most states have lemon laws which means it would be illegal for the dealer to sell you a faulty car. Plus most dealers dont want that kind of negative rep, so chances are the car is sound. Usually only worry about that when buying from private party scumbags. |

True story.
I went car shopping with a friend. He wanted a Nissan Maxima. We went to a Nissan dealer and we were trying to get a good price. The salesman went to his boss and the boss came to us and knocked off 30% of the initial price. Unfortunately, my friend's dad said no and said that he will not buy a car on the first day. Guess what happened later? That car was sold on the same day. However, we did not miss this opportunity. The car had some cosmetic problems such as scratches and a broken side view mirror. It was good that my friend did not get the car on that day
Regardless, the market for lemons (lemons are used shitty cars) is pretty tough because you as a buyer do not have all the information while the seller does. It is best to go with a friend who knows about cars very well or go to a mechanic and have it checked. Also make sure the car has a warranty.
