still cant read the processor. I'm not sure about this one, but in general pre-built comps are always overpriced. Just buy the parts and build/ask somene/pay someone to build it. |

Either a 4GB or a 4TB hard drive in a quantity (4096) that's not acquirable from any hard drive manufacturer with any combination of available sizes?
This is a really good chance for you to do what GoTuNk said and put it together yourself,
becoming less technitarded than you were previously and saving money.
I have a tough time keeping up with benchmarks and prices in the Icelandic market already
but the veterans seem to shop on www.newegg.com a lot.
(Stealing the Windows 7 saves you like 20% of your budget by the way) |

My points are 2 though:
Manufacturers (in this case Samsung) say 4TB meaning 4.000.000.000.000 bytes, decimal (x10^y).
All other products, applications and operating systems assume 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte (and so on)
someone in that computers case, decided not only to do the standard consumer misleading of the
profession but to kick it up a notch and imply that a 3724 GB disk is not only a 4000 GB one but a 4096 GB one.
EDIT: Forgot point 2: 4 1TB platter hard drives = not that great for a desktop computer, vibrating as heoyuulll
and riskier than necessary for personal data. |

Any prebuilt PC you buy makes you leave tons of value on the table for the sake of convenience. You should buy parts and build your own - good relevant learning experience and again, much better value.
I bought a pretty strong PC for ~what you're paying for - specs are here:
http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?id=240732
You would get a i5 for the girlfriend, not an i7.
Teamliquid tech support forum has tons of information on the topic, although you probably would need to do some digging:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/index.php?show_part=46
That said, you're paying probably ~160$ more for the fact that it's prebuilt so it's just cost-benefit analysis. |

If you don't have a techy friend that can help you out with the process though I would just buy a prebuilt. By the way you posted the OP and specs it seems you don't know much about PCs. It would therefore be pretty difficult to complete a project like this from start to finish on your own. |

above system is about 805.92 before shipping on newegg...so not to much of a markup (going straight newegg w/o looking up sales at other sites) in pricing for the custom build from them |

Tell your girl to trust her man, come on!
I'm not the best when it comes to computers, but even I could put a non pre-built comp together. It isn't hard at all! |

My favourite line is Bet/Fold. I bet, you fold. | |
