Someone on here recommended this (sorry don't remember who but it was in reference to FTP debacle) and I have been happy w/ the recent docu recs so checked it out (sidenote: armadillo was kick ass. if you like that check out an hbo series generation kill). Pretty interesting and enlightening flick. All I remember about enron really was that in my economics class some friends and I were first place in the state in a stock competition (lol run good) then we were literally dead LAST after enron fell to .40c/share and everyone hated enron and a bunch of rich white guys in suits and ties looked extremely sad in court rooms.
What actually went down is pretty crazy and worth a look.

fuckin lu pai man lol. gets outta there w/ 250mil. freeroll rhinowned for life. buys the rocky mountains. buys hawaii. rofl. there is probably a decent chance he can't look at himself in the mirror and hates life but if he somehow got out of there w/ a clear conscious rock on!
skilling makes my skin crawl. f psychopath. probably read crime and punishment and came to the conclusion he was better than raskolnikov. oops. should have listened to dostoevsky.
ken lay is the same. tossup who is worse.
does anyone know the deal w/ bush? that part of the movie seemed sketchy. bush obv had a pretty poor record but all those california dems were idiots too.
everyone who saw this is going to hate anyone who traded for enron ever and probably anyone who has traded anywhere ever.
another thing is how much blame should the banks get? on one hand it seems they are f bulletproof and have no accountability ever. on the other hand it would be tough to see through those shenanigans when enron was handing them tons of money and from all accounts are a rockstar company. firing analysts who were doing their job exceptionally and started to see through the shenanigans is pretty deplorable though.

cant remember much of the movie apart from Lou Pai's wizard cash out skills and that dude wanting to go on staff trips where someone might die lol.
Id probably be happy with a one time run-good pot scoop for $250m even if they activity was a little shady. |

It's a great documentary, I've seen it 3 times or so.
I'd recommend watching it again if you forgot any part of it, it's so fucking crazy what they did to not only the companies they were connected to, but the people of California and the state itself.
They basically were pimping California like a cheap whore. Amazing how they were able to get away with it for so long. |

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN | |

this has been on my list to watch for a while. i actually worked for a power trading firm this past summer (technically a hedge fund) that did basically what enron did trading power contracts/futures. in most power trading shops you'll have at least 2-3 people who previously worked at enron (more if it's a larger fund). it's also well known in power that california is a piece of shit and is very difficult to trade in due to their regulations (or lack thereof). the entire system of energy and power grids was incredibly poorly run, and enron had enough capital to abuse and take advantage of it. |
