I have a SC/BW background so thought this would be my first forum to join! Not great at BW, reached C+ several times on Iccup so bit of skill but not a lot. Student, 23.

Started getting very interested in poker a few months ago, read a couple of beginner books (Holdem for dummies and Full tilt tournament poker book). I play on 888, lost a bit of money in my first few months playing being a bit overly ambitious with terrible bankroll management, took a break have come back more recently a bit smarter however now I seem to be a break even player (which is an improvement from losing) and looking to improve from there. I play the 1/2c NLH tables on 888, usually 4 at a time to keep my interest. I find my ABC poker is fair, I tend to lose money from tilting and being impatient mainly so I'm working on that.

Ideas on where to go to improve would be cool, curious about some poker software, wondering if poker tracker is worth looking into.. so yeah any feedback or questions or anything about anything would be neat!

See you all around the forums!

Holdem Manager will actually be very beneficial if you can understand how the numbers interconnect, when to not look at them and when they are at utmost importance.

Basically, you absolutely should get HEM and here are a few reasons:

-after you download HEM Holdem Manager, go download POKERSTOVE

-once you collect enough hands on your opponents, say 1k hands, look at their % numbers from each position and see where that fits into POKERSTOVE. So, say someone opens EP/UTG with 14%, think about WHAT 14% of hands he is opening and start clicking away in POKERSTOVE. You will see 14% is most likely 22-AA, 65s+, Q10s+. K10s+, A10s+, AJo+, KQo. Now build from that 14% and add more, cards as his %range increase towards the Button.

-Now you will learn peoples RANGES from each position on Avg

-Once you learn RANGES, you will then start making up Hypothetical FLOPS. Now see how many hands in each of his RANGES, connect with that made up Flop. Compare that to his Cbet % and think maybe does he Cbet MORE/LESS often than his %cbet on these made up ranges? Then you will learn what FLOPS he is %cbetting too much, Now you can start FLOATING/ RAISING with Lighter

-HEM will teach you to track your %range from each position, so will learn if you are opening too much or too little from each position

-HEM will teach you how frequent a player is CR/Raising FLOPs / Turns / Rivers. So you will know if they are bluffing OR always NUTS when they CR (on avg)

-HEM will track your progress and help OTHER people look at your game if you have problems/questions

-HEM will allow you to REVIEW your sessions, go over ALL your hands that are 30BB or more, all your LOSING big hands and allow you to submit hands for questions

-HEM will let you IMMEDIATELY select/mark a hand you just played (say you weren't sure what to do) and make it easier to find later

So, if you do not buy HEM you will hurt your growth more than any of these noobs say it will 'narrow your focus' when using HEM.

Buy HEM and DL Pokerstove today and spend at least 50% of all your poker time on Pokerstove/HEM/ Thinking of flops/turn/rivers, and the other 50% playing

I have learned from poker that being at the table is not a grind, the grind is living and poker is how I pass the timeLast edit: 25/10/2011 11:48

and in the end, poker is very beatable, for the very reason that people are lazy, even if people are losing, breakeven, barely winning, they will almost always stay in that rut, regs will always be profitable to play against, you just need to work harder to understand their games more than they understand your game and you will profit towards infinity.

Thanks for the post, that's the main reason I was interested in some software, to get those sorts of stats through a program rather than doing it manually.

In comparison to HEM then, what does Pokertracker do? I thought it was PT that gave you peoples % to see flop etc etc, as well as financial tracking etc
