90% of people willing to coach suck, 90% of people who own wont coach.
My free tip if you wanna only beat live cash games and live tourneys, play tight as a nit and cross your fingers for AA. |

be careful who you get it from. Idk how people get away with charging ridic amts with no real credibility. I think anything over 50$/hr for "online" poker coaching is pretty absurd. Theres a lot of people out there who act/sound like they know what they are talking about but dont have the winrates to back it up. I almost got coaching (back when i palyed poker) with someone who played the same stakes as me (lol) at 100nl & 200nl and after playing with him i wasnt impressed. Im sure people who have coached/still coaching from LP will strongly disagree with me and its okay to pay more than XXX$+ as an investment but this is my .02. Check out some of the threads on this site on coaching too, heres one:

Wobbly I guess your point is good in that 90% of people who are actually good wont coach. And I guess that 10% left wont just "respond" to a blog like this so my approach in looking for a coach kinda sux.
fwiw I'm looking to play live cash and mtt but I just want to get good at poker, regardless online or live, cause I like it.
And flounder, yeah I am aware of this. I think I would have been pretty picky in who I selected pending the rate of course (though I think in hindsight probably not picky enough).

poker is a kind of medium to self discovery. you do not need a coach. just play a lot and study your own game.
and if one day you discover that you really suck (not saying you do, btw)... you really suck. early acceptance is the key.
edit: i guess what i'm saying is, you can learn the fundamentals. but learning how reeeaaally play poker depends on you. |

someone who has good knowledge of the game can help you improve very fast by spotting huge leaks that would take yourself forever to notice or to help enlighten you in how to think in tough situations that come up often, so i think good coaches can be very valuable bilat power. |

PM some people on LP who's hand advice you respect and see what they say; then do a trial session. Nothing to lose by asking and trying it out. I think you'll have a good chance of finding some good midstakes winner who is up for giving it a go just because coaching can improve the teacher's game a lot by having to find reasonable arguments for things they do on instinct and in that process they find that some of those things are not optimal. |

Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated. | |
