Hey guys
Each day I'm closer to leave Brazil for a long time with my girlfriend. It's gonna be a massive change in my life... I will no longer be working for the brazilian government and will work mainly as a model and playing poker on the side. The thing is, I really really love poker and I've been thinking lately that its gonna suck not to be able to play on stars again when I arrive in the USA. I still have some poker goals to achieve, I'm a hardworker and would love to achieve those goals, even though I know how frustrating this game can be.
The most important thing is that poker is not what my life is all about, I have a lot of other cool things going on so whenever I feel bad about poker I have where to rely on and I think thats really important to get me going. Anyway, my girlfriend knows everything about the "poker world", I told her and she supports me 100%. We were talking lately and we are thinking about postponing our travel to the USA and spend between 3 to 6 months in Bangkok waiting to see if the online poker situation in the USA gets better.
Nowdays Bangkok is even better than NYC for models like us, the thing about NYC is that u have a much higher chance of engaging in great carrer if you do the right things. Especially for my girlfriend since her dream is to become a Victoria's Secret model and that's only possible if we live in NYC. She is totally OK and excited about spending those initial months of 2012 in Bangkok, she already lived there for six months and she loves Bangkok, she said it would be fun and that if it would make me happy she would definetly go for it. If after those months in Bangkok the situations of online poker doenst improve in the USA we are gonna move to there anyway and I will probably have to quit poker since I dont trust any other site other than stars and playing live sucks.
We haven't decided yet, but it's most likely that we are going to Bangkok, and just thinking about living in Asia got me really excited. lol I've lived in London for a year but this time is different, its not Europe, its crazy Asia!! Its Bangkok!! LOL
I'm feeling really happy with the way things are going, hopefully everything is gonna be awesome wherever we decide to go... will keep you guys updated!!

You're playing NL50, seems like a colossal waste of time to postpone BOTH your plans (and essentially, her dream) just so you can play on Stars because you don't want to play live or on another site.
Its pretty normal to suddenly develop an urge to do something just before you undertake a big change to your life. Most of the time its best to just ignore it carry on with the plan youve been dedicating a lot of time and money towards.
6 months is not a long time, the process or legislation is going to take a long long time. You arent going to make that much money or improve much in 6 months and poker sure as hell isnt going to be fully legalized and operational in America in that time frame.
Also, visas are a huge pain in the ass in Thailand and the restrictions are getting even tighter now thanks to the new prime minister.

I think you should take the opportunities you have to go to New York right away and better your career there. If you still want to play poker, I'm sure you could find a casino in the area and play some live poker when you have time on weekends or something. Obviously, you won't be playing for the sake of making it a 2nd job, assuming your playing lower live limits, but at least you do get the chance to play in a relatively safe environment, socialize with others, laugh at how bad people really are to yourself, and just enjoy the total atmosphere. It's not the same as online poker (hand volume, stats, etc...) but you are still playing the game. I personally find live poker to be more enjoyable than online simply because I love the atmosphere and the increased heart rate when I play.
Bangkok is flooded. There is a crisis there and the government stated that they can do absolutely nothing about it and things wont change in the next 4 to 6 weeks. I wouldnt even consider going there if i were you
nothing is decided yet... we still have to call the model agency in bangkok that will represent us to ask how is the fashion market there at the moment, but everything I told you are assumptions made by my girlfriend. She is a more experienced model than me, a lot more...
my main limit is NL100 and I still grind MTT's 2 days a week max, depending on my schedule... I was mainly a MTT player at some time but I never liked it, cash games are what I really like

making a short story a little bit longer, she would not be postponing her dream... let me explain. to be a victoria's secret model she has be selected by them, take a bunch of pictures, IF they like her she will be in the victoria's secret catwalk that happens in the end of every year. she was selected THIS year to be casting for them BUT, for reasons they wouldnt explain the cancelled the casting this year for all the girls. we dont know when its gonna happen again, but we have some reasons to believe it will only be in the second semester of 2012. if for some reason she receives the call saying that the cast is happening while we are in bangkok she is just gonna take the first flight to NYC and I will meet her there a few days later (with all of our stuff, ready to move to NYC). I would never ask her to postpone such a dream cause I know how much that means to her.
edit: brazillians dont need visa to go to thailand...

if you want to play poker just try to get into NYC underground games. you are young and brazilian. they will think you are the biggest fish of all time. i believe slots/chinese games were recently allowed at NYC race tracks so it's only a matter of time before they have table games and poker. good luck.
