Internet in hotels sucks in Phuket. Better rent a villa there yourselves and make sure they have a decent broadband connection.
Oh and if you want, I can direct you to a realter there that can show you houses and stuff. |

i answered to the post at pf.nu, but can post here as well =)
Phuket is a fairly big island, but assuming you gonna live at Patong Beach (where the most partying and such happens) i can recommend http://www.millenniumhotels.com/th/millenniumpatongphuket/index.html . Stayed there twice when visiting Thailand, it's so central anything can be, its litterary inside the biggest shopping center Phuket has, jungceylon. 3-5 min walk distance to all the bars, a little bit further to the beach, maybe 10-15 min.
Internet was working perfectly at the rooms when i stayed there, didnt use wireless much but if i remember right it was working so you could bring the laptop to the pool area (which is pretty sick, the pool is on the 6th floor or something and huge as hell).
Its 5-star so maybe its to expensive if you gonna stay there a long time, but still everything in thailand is pretty cheap so you cant compare the 5star rates there to europe.
glgl phuket is awesome! but if you like nature more than partying i wouldnt stay at Patong, probably kata beach / karon beach instead. |

If you are going to Thailand, go to Koh Phangan, great place! Paradise beaches in the more remote areas, and a big party area where the full moon party is. |

If you get a thai smartphone simcard can have backup internet on 3g by tethering your phone to your computer. when ever my internet cut out, I quickly connected my phones USB cable and got back online with about 10seconds left of timebank. the 7/11s sell the simcards, might need to go to the DTAC store in a mall to get it fully setup.
Come to New Zealand next! Hit the grind with me and Stroggos |

I'm certainly no expert on the issue, but I've heard horror stories of power outages and internet dropping as a common occurrence in Thailand in general. |

power-cuts shouldn't be too bad at the moment because the rainy season is over now i think.
Internet is always gonna be shitty compared to Swedish standards, even the best ones aren't that good, super high variance even nice hotels can have shit internet. There's no way to know for sure unless you find out exactly what their ISP/package is. If you ask if the internet is good they'll all say "yes very good high speed" no matter how shit/unreliable/slow it is.
If you're gonna be in Thailand for a while you should get a backup connection + UPS, tether it through your phone or get an aircard (quality of connection will vary depending on your location though) |
