hi guys,

i'm getting towards the end of season 2 of Burn Notice right now and i have a question:

there's a scene where the hero michael westin is in a car chase shootout and he says that when you're in a firefight on the road that you can fire shots at the pavement underneath the car and they will ricochet up through the under-carriage thru the floorboard of the car (this is assuming the other car is trailing behind you), is this accurate?

So a bullet is supposed to be able to hit the pavement, losing most of its energy and still pierce the metal underbody of a car? I call bullshit.

Perhaps with a high powered weapon and the right car.

he said this is specifically for when your gun is not high calibur so it won't go through the radiator, also the guys chasing after him were like CIA or smth so their cars shouldn't be too crappy.

Why wouldn't you simply shoot at the driver?

this was one of the other two options he mentioned for when you have a lower calibur gun (shooting at windshield) but if you're up against CIA or FBI i guess they're pretty likely to have bullet-proof windshield?

Bullet proof glass son. But who puts bullet proof glass in their floor? That would just be retarded

indeed westin says that the undercarriage is usually one of the least-reinforced parts of a car

good idea asking liquid poker forum this question, I myself have been in 5 or 6 car chase gunfights (probably on the low end compared to other users here) and can tell you that this is in fact 100% accurate.

I call bull shit. If it's full metal jacket bullets (you know, the one's that are actually legal for other stuff then hunting animals) I'd say that it's more likely that they'll just lose too much energy on impact or just bounce of in a random direction. Bullets are really fragile when it comes to keeping in the right direction when they hit shit. Even tall grass can fuck up the ballistics of guns used to hunt big game. The last part I actually know because my dad hunts a ton.
