I like the way you played the hand tbh, assuming you'd call any non-ace, non-diamond rivers. When bad players check behind you on the turn after raising the flop, that's usually the indication of him having a strong draw, which, most of the time will be Axdd by default.
Having reads on how your opponent plays his made hands / draws is very important when you decide whether to call or fold in situations like this. (try to watch what the mark at the table shows down vs other players if you didn't get involved vs him / her yet, then replay the hand and see how he proceeded each street, that should give you the basic idea).
Of course, you would have to know if he's at all capable of raising big draws in the first place...you'd be surprised how many fish simply don't do that. |
