i dont think you have to always 3bet pre. i dont mind the way it was played. if he is relatively tight or competent for the stakes, maybe you can check back turn and evaluate river if you are really sure he has AQ, otherwise i dont see a problem with it. i think you might be overthinking it because you lost. that said, i think you are at a stake where you dont need to worry about balancing a calling and raising range with AK, so while you may see people flatting AK in higher stakes, and the open raiser is UTG, 3bet that almost always here.

even if you 3bet pre, you are going to be ending up with the same hand result here.

this guys really bad. he's a total nit, and yes i was thinking about chekcing back turn, but when that Q came i just shook my head... i couldn't think of any other hand he is calling here with then AQ maybe AJ but he would of definitely folded KK or QQ on that flop as i've seen previously

for full ring 9 handed, flatting AK UTG+1 vs UTG is almost 100% standard unless villian is a donk or will play exploitably ex, will 4-bet KK+, but flat AQ QQ JJ .. and fold everything weaker

I like flatting flop, let him barrel his worse Aces/cbets, check back turn for pot control/possibly inducing river bluff. Call river if he bets/value bet river if checked to

raising here is not more valuable than just flatting if you think that this guy is a nit?, if you flat he will check/fold a bunch of turns don't you?
